I thought I would follow Dave's example and sacrifice my Monday Bank Holiday Monday to spend the afternoon at Mill Barn so I could report back to you all at to how it's fishing. In short I fished from 2pm to 6:30pm, 7 carp (2 doubles the rest 5-8lb) along with roach and rudd up to 1lb. I was using sweetcorn, maggots and pellets, all caught in the margins using a pole. I reckon about 50-60lb in all - not bad for 4 and a half hours fishing. Hope this helps!

Spoke to Graham earlier. He says that the Anchor Pub is no longer doing breakfast. However there are a couple of possible alternatives.

1) There is a small hut at the main fishery site where the owner says he can do some sausage/bacon /egg butties.
2) a small cafe not to far away but unlikely to have enough seats for us.
3) Another pub that may do brekkies.

I have left it in Grahams hands to see if he can sort out option 3.

The owner also says that the level in the Res is falling fast which means that some platforms will be a fair way off the water. It is possible to fish from the bank though it may be muddy on some pegs and may not be easy for some of our less able to get the gear down.
He has offered us the canal lake instead. I have not fished it but have seen it and from a personal point of view its not a lake I want to fish. I will try to get down there next week to see.
Not having fished the res last year the rest of you will have a better idea of whats involved.

What are your opinions?

OK - have had a word with the fishery owner and he says the pub (the Castle in Little Wakering) will do us full english for around £5/6. So if I could have a consensus of opinion as to whether we have a sit down brekky at the pub or bacon/sausage butties at the fishery. My preference is for a sit down at the pub.
Also the fishery owner has said he will be taking food orders (butties & burgers) around 11am and will bring the food round to the pegs at about 1pm. I'm assuming we will have a few takers for this?

With regards to the dropping water level on the reservoir - it doesn't effect the fishing but, as Dave mentioned, it just may be a bit difficult getting all our gear into the bank. Some swims will have had the bank levelled off which should make it a bit easier. I'm with Dave though and would much rather fish the resevoir given the choice.

Please come back to me asap with your choice of breakfast venue.

OK so the Castle pub for breakfast it is. It now all booked for 14 at 7:30, post code is SS3 0JW for those with satnav. The old fashion way is to take the first exit at the second mini roundabout just before you reach Great Wakering High Street. It is signposted "Little Wakering", the pub is less than half a mile further on, just past a church and then on the left.

Also we're staying with fishing the reservoir as no one has back to wanting the canal lake. One further the owner has, with regards to the dropping water level, is that if fishing from the platforms you have enough keepnet in the water. But I'm sure he will want to point this out again on the day.

See you all Saturday

Dave this is the latest set of rules from their updated website, and there is one to take note of especially as some people fell foul of the power of some of the fish present there..........

RULES FOR 2011/12
1.       Each angler must have a landing net and disgorger at hand before commencing to fish

2.       Barbless hooks only

3.       A maximum of 10lb / 4.5kilos breaking strain line to be used

4.       No keepnets to be used other than at club matches or by prior arrangement. Keepnets must be 10ft /3.05m or over

5.       Your membership covers you for up to 2 rods on any lake

6.       No surface fishing* or floating baits, minimum depth of 1ft between surface & bait, no surface fishing floats or rattlers.

7.       The following are not to be used on any of the lakes: Glue, Shelf life Boilies, Artificial/Plastic baits, Luncheon meat and Cat Meat

8.       Membership cars to be carried at all times

9.       No litter or discarded tackle to be left at the lakes

10.   Member's cars to be left inside designated car parks provided & not on the roadside. If using the reservoir, please close the gate. Vehicles & contents left entirely at owners risk

11.   No bonfires or loud music

12.   On members lake no poles or whips of any description to be used in swims under the electric cable bank (see lakes guide)

13.   Only rods up to a maximum of 13ft to be used under cables on members lake

14.   Nobody is allowed to accompany you on the lakes unless a day ticket has been purchased

15.   £10 supplement per night when night fishing for members – must telephone and pre book.

16.   Night fish one night in three. Junior members can only night fish when accompanied by a senior member.  You must vacate the lakes by the following evening

17.   Only pegged swims to be fished

18.   Guest day tickets £10.00 per day

19.   Braided like can only be used as a hook length, no longer than 6"/153mm

20.   No electric bite alarms to be used unless using 2 rods or night fishing

21.   No alcohol allowed on the lakes at any time

22.   Unhooking mats when Carp fishing

23. No Dogs on complex

* Rule 6 and no surface fishing raises a lot of questions amongst anglers. At Mill Barn we are dedicated to the welfare of the fish, and will go to any lengths needed to maintain this. It has been proven this is not a method kind to fish therefore we have outlawed it. Any persons found to break this rule will have their membership terminated on the spot and asked to leave the complex. The same applies for day tickets, who will asked not to return

:o I have to say that's the first ime I've ever seen a set of rules that stipulates a maximum line strength. :o
