Catching half a Fish....

I caught half a fish once, I was at Walcot Lake about 12 years ago on a pleasure session. It was a slow day and I went for a walk and left my waggler out and when I came back I couldn't see the float so I reeled in to find an Eel that was decomposing, my hook had caught in the bone, half the body had gone and half was still there. I wonder if I could have weighed it in in a match? I know NFA rules state all fish must be alive to weigh them but under the circumstances lol.
