ROACH WEIGHTS
On a day where roach didn't feed on most venues I fished an Izaak Walton (Stafford) AA open match on their club water at High Onn, Church Eaton.
I was dead chuffed with 10lb 11oz, my first 'double' for quite a while.
I was LAST of the ten. Richard Guest (Maver Tipton Van den Eynde) won with 18-12-0 from the middle peg 5. 'No bread' Westwood was second with 16-1-0 and Dean Williams was third with 12-7-9. All were caster roach with odd just odd other species like skimmers, hybrids and perch. Biggles was fourth with 12-2-0, Ecker Gardener fifth with 12-1-0. Sam Rushton had his best ever canal weight with 11-14-0 and third, well done Sam.
There are 18 pegs on this length and another 9 'in between' waters. All fooking solid, - what a venue.
Not a bloodworm, joker or chub in sight

ROACH WEIGHTS
Nearly all of our Izaak Walton AA waters have had eighteen months rest at least since the Division One National.
I know it is difficult to do but I sincerely think at this time of the year two canal matches with less than SIX weeks between them at this time of year (bloodworm or no bloodworm) is one too many.
We have loads of waters just waiting to be 'match tapped' now. Over at Hoo Mill on the T and M pleasure anglers are having some right bream, skimmers, roach and odd big chub. This is another section where huge weight could be a possibilty.
The Staffs-Worcs could be a little unknown. We have 4.5 miles of it and alot of it has been littke fished for three years. Huge catches are always possible from Radford to Roseford, there are huge amounts of bream here as well as all sorts of other species.
All we want is a match secretary, can anyone help?
Our new card is out April 1, from local outlets at just £25 adults, £13 OAPs and £6 under-16s; lots of other waters too!

Sounds great Bill, especially with roach hardly showing on loads of canal matches - look at the Coventry Canal result 4lb hardly ever gets in the frame in the city centre. Just wish the Shroppie was a bit closer - I used to work in Newcastle Under Lyme and rented a cottage in Norbury for a year - used to fish the Shroppie nearly every night - cracking venue!!

Shroppie and Staffs / Worces are great canals ........ some crappity smacking long walks tho !

If the match organisers round here got together you could have a match every sat and sun and only fish same pegs 3 or 4 times a year.

with the price of fuel going up lloydy thats all we be doing !! here in leicestershire its the same as you miles of canal and rivers so we are arranging a meeting of the main organisers so we can just do that and the good thing about it all the matches should be 60+
plus the organisers get a rest from running every match as each clubs runs the match on there own waters
CIU,summer league and the wigston league will run only in the county or possibly Moira

It wont work round here Joff, tried it about 5 years ago.
A lot of anglers dont want to fish 60 peggers, they are happy fishing against their mates on 20 peggers.

i think its more about the traveling lee we regularly get 40 to 50 at this time of year
ok last week it was all over the place but 40 on the river league 36 on the canal and 32 on the other canal so i would think we can sort it i know some of those on the loughborough are from outside the county

Even on the R Yare, we struggle if we fish the same pegs 2 days running. You can divide the weights on the Saturday by 3 for the weights on the Sunday.
We can fish the same pegs every week though and the weights are consistently high. At least they have been for the last few years, let's hope that they will be again this year come June.

I think Joff is talking about the narrow canals Rich, I certainly was. The canal stretch where those weights come from on Sunday is that shallow you can not properly fish it across!
Big waters are a bit different, some actually fish better for being fished regularly, even two days on the bounce. All venues are different on this score.
