Grueller match 4 2010 - 'not a bad day'...........
was waiting with baited breathe to read about another great days fishing!!!!!!!!!
Grueller match 4 2010 - 'not a bad day'...........
I’ve certainly struggled to find 10/15 mins to pen this last report so here’s an abbreviated version…….
16 turned up for this one, with new faces ‘Slipknott’ and ‘Shedbreaker’ who had come along to experience first hand the potential wrath of the
There were already a few faces on the bank when we arrived to peg out……..a piker on the boatyard section with Twink and his mate out for a pleasure session on the first few pegs by the access point along with a carper - must good this cut
.
The intention was to put all 16 on the boatyard. The cut was carrying some colour as we approached the new bridge, but the minute you walked under the bridge onto the boatyard it dropped out dramatically - you could see the bottom………..and whether it was a figment of our imagination it got clearer and clearer along the length.
Big Baz called a halt half way along the section and and dropped peg 17 down. We walked back to the bridge with 17 to 7 put in, 1 to 6 would go on the ‘kennels’ side of the bridge.
Cheslynboy, was not amused and intimated that if he drew one of the lower pegs he was off home.
The draw was made and Cheslynboy had overcome the first hurdle - he was on 12 and seemed relatively happy with that draw.
With 2 pegs left in the bag KOD made me draw………15 stuck to my sweaty palm - well it wasn’t really sweaty, it was rather a chilly, misty morning - and KOD had the pleasure of end peg 1
Off I trotted with MrV and Hotlips for company
My peg
The off and punch and joker lines were fed. Wasn’t sure whether it was the ‘right thing to do’ but I’d managed to scab some joker off MarkO.
A look on the punch bought a few small fish off one punch line, but not the other closer line
MrV was having a few small fish too - on the punch so I thought.
Looking to my left, Hotlips was struggling...........
..........and not a lot seemed to be happening to the side of him. In fact after the match BigBaz confided he’d only had 1 perch during the first two hours.
After getting on for an hour I tried my 9 mtr joker line…………nowt. A look further across hard up against the boat produced just one bite - a small perch. I’d also fed a few caster with the joker, hoping for a ‘stamper stripey’………..but not a touch on the shell.
Now I dunno whether it’s just me……….but TBH I’ve never caught decently when Ive been 'hard against' those boats for some reason………….bites have been more frequent fishing a section shorter - even though as in the case with todays peg there was less than an inch deviation in depth between the two lines
Half way through Mrv has netter which he advises is a ‘4oz perch’…………..well as the scales revealed later, it would appear that that once honest upright citizen, MrV, has now been infected with that contagious Cashmores disease known as e ‘jackanoryitous’
I kept wheedling a few out sporadically and when Heinzer blew up for the end of the 4 hours - yep readers, that’s all we tend to fish during the winter despite BigBaz’s desire to do the 5 - I’d ended up with 34 fish, 29 on the punch and 5 smaller samples on double j.
I’d only just started packing away when Heinzer came along with the scales………he’d had the proverbial grueller and packed up early.
MrV emptied his net into the basket………..now I dunno what he’d been feeding those fish in his keepnet but that 4oz stripey had tripled in size to summat in the order of 12oz. ::)
I knew then that he’d done me, but I was certainly disappointed with what my 34 fish came in at. :( Honestly thought they would 'go a bit more'
Because Heinzer was early with those scales I didn’t get the opportunity for any ‘catch shots’ as I carried on packing away. Which is a bit of a shame really. :(
Why?
Because I learnt later that today’s winner supposedly had 3 clonking roach - two knocking the lb mark and one of which was deffo over the lb. Would have liked to have taken a picture or two of those redfins…………..
Anyway here’s the tale of the scales………..
PEG
1 KOD DNW
2 MARKO 1.0.0
3 ABUMAN 0.5.6
4 GLYN 1.3.3
5 SLIPKNOT 0.4.2

16 MRV 2.12.3
Well done Blues4eva - certainly a good day for you on the fishing and fottie front.
And my education continues - confiding into Baz that I’d struggled for bites on the j, plus they were an even smaller stamp of fish, he ‘told’ me how I’d fed/fished it. And he was right………….but now he’s put me right about what it is that’s ‘peculiar’ about fishing the w&j on the W&E up our neck of the woods (and Extension) and how to ‘go about it’ differently - so next time may be interesting……….
Anyway next match moves onto ‘The Common’ that’s unless we get blown off and have to seek the relative shelter of The Extension again……..

Tk
The biggest roach was about about 12oz, I only had 2 fish on castor both down the track, one being the 12oz roach the other a perch. All the others was caught on BW and then joker late on. Never took any punch.
TBH the end peg definitely helped . Just hope I get another one next match and the Blues beat villa in the cup

Grueller match 4 2010 - 'not a bad day'...........
Nice report TK Honestly, the perch was only 4oz when I netted it It ate all the small roach in my net that I had caught fishing the W/J wrongly It couldn't manage the bigger Roach I caught fishing it right
My end peg did help, although when the bloke on the boat opposite started knocking 7 bells out of the hull of his boat with a sledge hammer, 2 minutes into the match, I thought I was in for a
Thanks to Big Baz for the 20 bloodworm and 15 English joker he loaned me for hookers, the Russian stuff was a nightmare trying to hook
Nice to see a few new faces among the gruellerites.......bet the quacks around Pelsall had a rush on Mogodom on Monday
