surely this is malicious damage/vandalism so could you not report to the police seeing as it was a match there should be plenty of witnesses,i know the bobbies will probably sweep it under the carpet but its worth a try.
a visit from the police might just deter her from doin it again.
best of luck m8

Harry,
I would certainly go to the police and report this incident. My advice would be to get the names and addresses of the anglers either side of you as back up.
Report the incident, - there is an actual Code of Conduct for British Waterways canal users, - I have a copy somewhere. In a nutshell it is basically first come, first served. If you were shipping back a jogger/biker should in theory wait for you to complete the operation then go on their way.
I hope something can be done but I wouldn't hold your breath. It is however best you report it in view of it happening again. Let us know how you get on.
Bikes, in theory (and for their own benefit as well as others) should carry at a third part insurance for cycling down the towpaths. Unfortunately this is only a recommendation and not a law.

A very interesting subject, and i ask myself the same sort thing as Joff pointed out,why do we pay to use the canal/towpath and are then at the mercy of others who pay sweet FA ?
I had an incident last week at small heath where i'd shipped my pole back to unhook a fish, chap walked along the towpath so i asked him politely if he could wait a few seconds while i rebaited and shipped back out,oh no Mr Hasty decides to lift my pole off the roller so he isn't kept waiting for 10 seconds longer
Needless to say i had to point out the error, and if i'm honest i can't believe i only used one swear word and didn't plant him in the cut.
Harry, would certainly contact the police and BW mate and see what course of action you can take.
Hopefully something can be done and you won't be left out of pocket.

Harry,
There is a British Waterways 24-hours helpline number to call. The number is there for cases of 'low water levels' and 'vandalism'.
0800 4799947
Hope this helpline helps

Harry 911 having read your version of events its was certainly not an accident which would be her only mittigation. Her ractions, words spoken and what happened at the next peg just goes to reinforce her malicious act of damage which can be intentional or reckless as to the consequences. This certainly falls within the realms or criminal damage and dont let the police tell you differently. Yours/their problem is actually identifying her. Hope this helps
