Hi Paul - I'm no venue expert, but it seems all your 'normal' baits score corn/meat on hook only/pellet/caster/mag and have their day on there.
For example I've won on there fishing the corn but last match couldnt buy a bite on it whilst others did
As for methods most fish the pole - long and short lines, together with your margins, but make sure you plumb up - there are some underwater contours/features to find in certain areas.
Similarly dependent on peg, the wag and feeder will produce to the islands which are out of pole reach.
TBH whilst I've had reasonable bags of typically skimmers on the mag, I'd probably only use it as a last resort as you now seem to stand more than a fair share of been bit out out by the gudgeon, unless you fish it up in the water.
I'd give Robin the fishery manager a call - 01543 262595 - a few days before your trip to find what's the 'in bait' and any other advice he can offer

Paul,
The pool is like along figure of eight with a long island in the middle. To catch carp the pegs to draw are the bottom either side as you come onto the lake (long margins). As you go past these pegs it widens up, here there are under water features such as plant containers at 16/17 metres, again carp.
It then narrows to the point of the island, either side is good with method to the point.
The next set of pegs either side of the island are great for skimmers from 5m to 10m.
Coming up to the top point of the island are good carp pegs fishing to point and margins.
The top bowl is also good for method feeder/carp and margins.
Maggots/ corn for carp and maggot/caster/ corn for skimmers. The skimmers love fishmeal groundbait and to get a good weight I would cup in a few balls and leave it to settle for half an hour while fishing the feeder.
Good luck ! anymore info feel free to ask !

Obviously a lot more intimate knowledge of the pool than me CWH
- in all our matches there I've only ever drawn 3 pegs - 7, 8 & 37 - I've heard rumours of a 'bowl' down the 'other end

When I went to Curborough I though I was in Stafford market.
Ended up with a sprout bag full of carrots

Top venue though, lots of bites.

well i've just got back from curborough and i have to admit it wasn't to bad but could have been better.
fishing on swan pool the match started well enough for me nice roach first drop on double red maggot followed up by "blind bob" the goldfish(as named by Robins daughter). more roach and skimmers followed on maggot and pellet before i tried up in the water. 6mm soft pellet on hook and firing put 4mm hard pellets didn't bring much-just more roach and a bonus bream of 1.5lb- until a silly 5lb gudgeon hooked its self pulling out loads of 11h elastic then nothing.
back on the bottom for some more roach skimmers and gudgeon, back to shallow fishin but it was very slow.
going into the last hour and it was into the margins. not much happening here until the last 1/2 hr then it was carp 5
basher 1.
carp no 1 bust my 4lb hook length carp no2 staightened a size 16 preston pr32 hook and the other 3 were in the middle of the lake before i could add extra sections---gutted!!
1st peg 32 45lb
2nd peg 21 35lb
3rd peg 34 34lb
4th peg 40 33lb
5th peg 22 29lb
i finished 7th with 12lb. those lost fish would have got me into the top 5.
will defo be back for a rematch with the carp
just to say my old man finished last with 2lb off peg 31 in the corner behind the island. with noone on peg 30 he had loads of room on the island and could only get bits but couldnt fish to the reeds and trees to his right "because he cant fish the pole that way"--what a numpty

Cheers for the update Gudgeon Basher
Well at least a 'lesson' learnt for your next trip down there
But along with CWH I jumped to the conclusion you were on the 'new' match pool and we may have given you a bum steer
