i havent had much experience on the punch as 90% of my fishing as been on comercials, its something id love to have under my belt and be good at, and plan on practasing the method,i just need some advice to point me in the right direction to practice at although im not a complete novice at it i just know a lot of people a lot better than me at it, rigs, shotting pattern, tips etc thanks all...... i have just bought http://www.harrisonstackle.com/acatalog/info_DS9.html
and going to make a load up later, am i on the right tracks?

i always use an olivette with punch fishing.
if it aint flowing too much and is upto 7 feet deep then i tend to set a drennan pinkie float 0.75 gram.
a tiny ball of sieved blended bread every other trot through.
just touching bottom if bites are finiky try holding back to slow the rig up.
also put a couple of no.8 shot 6 inches above the float as backshot to sink that line and get the float following the flow.

77 Elite has his favs for running waters, spose Chavey uses a couple of differing patterns on his punch circuit.

Them look spot onto me for the cuts round here....but there again what do I know

Sure there was a similar topic on here a year or two back, many anglers have their own favorites...........spose its down to

a) will it do the job
b) is there owt better out there to do the job
c) what pattern you become 'comfortable' with
d) what pattern you get confidence with

Or is it all down to shotting and feeding, although I must say I do like a 'slim' float

I use a couple of differing float patterns on our cuts dependent on conditions - probably my favorite being a 'seed' float pattern for 'down the shelves', that others might think is totally 'wrong' for the job

iv had a good look at what some of the cracks have written up on the net over the past couple of days, got a few tips and managed to make 8 rigs up with a few different patterns to try out, problem is i cant get out to have a practice

have used this method on local canal works great
good old bread punch and liquidized bread have not been fishing for a couple of
weeks hope to get out weekend

I use the DS9's and Tubertini stix.The DS9's are little more sensitive.I normally use 0.3 and 0.4 grm floats for fishing the track,and 0.1 and 0.2 up the shelf.Shotting is just a bulk and droppers,as these can be spread a little as conditions change,and i'm a big fan of Stotz on my lightest rigs.One point i will make is to shot your floats with punch on the hook.Hookwise its MP1's in 22 and 24 for the lighter rigs and B511's in 20 and 22 for the heavier rigs.

only been fishing five months, just started on the pole
a month ago love it. the fishing community are the most
helpfull bunch of people with great tips and advice
dont know how to up load pics yet.

Good to hear youve recently taken to the sport and that youve been having a few rayman

There's a few crack bread punch anglers on here - dont be scared to ask them anything, I'm sure they'll help out - that's how we all learnt

Same goes with other baits/venues

1g 75g yet I somtimes go to a man made pond were their
are carp and barbel my hook sizes are normaly 18 20 22.

What pool are you refering to rayman?

As a sweeping generalisation..........
a) match your hook sizes to your intended bait
b) match the guage of hook to your intended quarry or what you expect to catch
c) work on .1g for each foot of water - eg .5g for 5ft deep, unless conditions dictate (eg undertow) that you need fish a heavier float to combat the conditions. You can always of course go lighter if conditions allow
d) match line strength/diameter to your expected quarry

In winter you generally need to 'scale down' both hook and line size to attract bites, similarly 'step up' during summer when the fish are feeding more voraciously and fight harder.
