We have often talked about sponsorship on this site, 'or lack of it' in todays match fishing circles.

I ask one very simple question?

Imagine you are that sponsor, 'What would you expect in return?'

Don't hold back, say what you think; I am interested in the responses, if any Image Image

what you would expect in if you were a sponsored angler
firstly i would hope the sponsor would would state first what he expected of me and assuming they had approached me because of results and character
secondly i would be 100% behind the sponsor and hope the sponsor would be 100% behind me
when i see individual sponsored anglers using other companies products i feel is'nt right but is hard not to do if the sponsor isn't on top of his products and passing on products quickly
at the moment individual sponsorship is for a very small group of anglers and these angler are devoted 100% to there sport
team sponsorship is very different and deals are hard to come by i mean proper sponsorship not just a polo shirt and coat and team sponsorship needs to be controlled carefully and used for the right reasons
team members think they should have everything for nothing but are the first to turn up there noses if its a team match on a venue that they don't fancy again another reason why team fishing is faltering at the moment
i always remember the Shakespeare catalog  with the team on the cover all dressed well all promoting there brand but this team would fish everything together travel together there wasn't a venue they wouldn't fish [ok it was before commercial took off]that the image of sponsorship i remember bill Image
now teams seam so big with commercial teams canal teams and river teams all with in one team how can you expect to sponsor each angler with gortex coats rod bags and carryalls and mybe boxes
anglers today don't  seam to mind wearing there old team coats fishing for other teams and sometimes its who's fishing for who
thats my view on sponsorship
we are very lucky with our sponsors and many thanks to them

I think the biggest problem is that anglers look at what the sponsor will give them without wanting to do anything for the sponsor, they think wearing the clothing and putting the name in the paper is enough, anything free that turns up at meetings is snapped up but how many are prepared to do features, if you have a team with 12 anglers thats only 1 feature each a year to have an article in a magazine every month

Bill, you asked the question “Imagine you are that sponsor, 'What would you expect in return?'

Well the firm I work for “Premier Plus Ltd” sponsor or support in many ways ranging from buying the local children’s football team shirts, old peoples homes, charity events in many forms and of course the obligatory local round about near our office.

What do we expect in return?  Very little………… the reason for our support?
We want to give something back to our local community. The same community in which many of our clients live or events that our clients are involved in or organise.

The end result is we are known by many local people and these same people when needing financial advice turn to ourselves.

We give a great deal in terms of financial assistance, however, we receive a great deal of support from the local community......... the same i think applies in fishing, the sponsors tend to give on balance to what they receive or expect to receive.

Look at the relationship Alan Scotthorn has with Shimano he receives a great deal but just look at what Shimano get back in return!!!!!!
