Bill I bought one off Bob Eaton when poles just hit the scene and you are right, what a concoction, loads of fibre glass inserts, yet it was the tops until the Daiwa pole came out !

It was really expensive at the time; a pal of mine has still got one but it is never used. They were grey weren't they CPH.

At a guess they were sold around 1975, is that about right?

I think they came out in 1977, they were black with a brass ring on the front of each section. The inter-sections all missed out one section and fitted like a pyramid. They were 10 metre,s and I think were £500 pounds. I bought mine off Bob for £250, after he bought it, did not like it and went back to rod and line for the far bank of the canal.
The only trouble was they were often too short for the far bank of the T and M at Burton. We ended up fitting fibre glass extensions to get over ! what a back breaker.
We never thought to use them on rivers until alot later eh mate !
I think it came with two top two,s ! also cost an arm and a leg for spares !

Yeah they were 10 metres and as heavy as ten gas meters. I thought they were grey with a steel ring around each section but wouldn't swear to it.

Ok I will then, man balls Image Image Image

We were sponsored by Olympic CWH, remember Olympic Izaak Walton (1987 to about 1991). Olympic were an offshoot of East Anglian Rod Company, based in Newmarket in those days.
