Bloodworm and joker
It's a pretty poor show if the anglers fishing a match couldn't find enough bait for a couple of juniors to fish

they are obviously very interested as they don't have to be there in the first place.
The kids we have are only there because they want to be.
There may only be one out of twenty (there may be more or even less) that have the desire and will to try match fishing, some go into carp fishing and other branches of angling.
I live at Stafford and to be perfectly honest there is all but nothing to help these youngsters out except the coaching courses. I can only imagine it is similar in other towns when they finish these coaching courses that is it, there is nothing to fill the gap. I often ask the parents and nearly always it comes down to the cost. I am a single guy with no kids (that I know about anyway), a lot of you guys have youngsters. Put it this way if you had to multiply your match and bait fees by, say two or three for you kids to compete, is this not a bit expensive.
I am trying to search for some sort of answer; there may not even be one.

Joff,
The kids we get come from various sources; educational programmes, community officers, sports colleges, the Police and so forth. The courses I help out with involve coaches looking after two youngsters at most at one time. With that in mind there are generally six or eight youngsters at a time.
The courses last two or three hours with a short break in the middle. The day, however, lasts much longer as it takes us quite a while to set all the kit up before they arrive and put it away when the courses end. It's all rewarding stuff and I like doing it from time to time.

a question was put forward to me today
would i consider relaunching the teams of eight but with no B/J allowed
I've added it to this topic as bill is fishing a non B/J league i'm fishing in the wigston league and i can't really say I've missed it its a strong league with the lads from spro and wigston plus a lot of tackle shop teams
now if it was a B/J league would you get 52 anglers to fish 6 matches
the banters great and no one has blamed the canal more the weather we have had and its cost less then £20 all in thats bait pools a cuppa and a mars bar
its food for thought what do you think

I fished a WK withour b&j before Xmas and to be honest the fishing was really good.
I am currently fishing the Crewe WL with 56 entries. It is rock hard in places but where isn't? In two match we have had just one blank but there may well be more to come.
Nobody is telling me that bloodworm and joker is the key to avoid a blank, it may well be where there are numbers of gudgeon, small perch and ruffe but these venue are getting less and less in the Midlands or is it that match anglers are not fishing thise venues?
I have some dates to run a WL later this year and I am absolutely inundated with phone calls and people asking about it so much so that numbers will have to be restricted, - there will be no b&j in these matches.
I have nowt whatsoever against b&j fishing but it surely is personal choice.
'Tis true, whatever anybody thinks b&j matches are more expensive. My bait for this year altogether is one full pint of squatts, a quarter of a pint of pinkies and only weekly, - a quarter or half a pint of casters.
I have cancelled my squatt order this weekend too!
Total bill, under £10!!!
Having worked in a tackle shop as a 'maggot monkey' there are ways of keeping squatts for a lot longer than most think!
Go for it Joff, get running a few matches again

bill i done want to send the wrong message out about B/J I ENJOY THE CIPS MATCHES but you know what you are up against and thats my choice and i'l practice for those matches its not everybodys cup of tea but this year and at this time of year i can't believe how many anglers are trying to avoid B/J matches for some thing else whether its lack of money or they feel they can't compete
listen bread fishing is just as much as a art as B/J fishing but at this time of year i feel its down to areas where the fish are 8lb still won the match yesterday 7lb 2nd 4lb15oz 3rd thats winter fishing the fish won't move very often so would £15 worth of B/J helped i don't think so

The first six were all together Dodge but that can happen at loads of cut venues at this time of the year.
One section was won with just 9oz but there were no blanks in that one.

I must admit I quite enjoyed it; it's just a matter of getting your head around that type of fishing. That was all we basically had years ago on a lot of cuts, believe me, so it were no big deal for me.
I had 1-1-8 of punch gudgeon and yellow stream drop roach. Fourth in section. Winner had 1-5-0. I spent one hour on the shell during the match for crappity smack all bites

Years ago I used to go up to Garstang and in the matches I went to a few ounces won most of the sections there; b&j was in then!
I ain't against b&j fishing but you can crappity smack those pellets off down the nearest shy tole

13lb 14oz is a cracking days fishing even if he caught 'em on dog sh!t or whatever, it don't matter.
