Those Mustad hooks, cannot see the type but if I remember it was 90205 for caster and 90340's for maggot.

the hook to nylon are still good but the blue le'a'dor have gone rusty
ultra wire stem stick float and the old lead wire we put around the base of the wagglers on the witham can't believe its thirty years ago

Still got some coils in one of my drawers Joffie - honest - for adding to some massive 2ft plus long wagglers (with a bulbous body at the bottom) that I used on the Huntspill a few years back to beat the wind and also pick up the trip

Did you read the article by Steve Jackson in match fishing TK ? many years ago, I think it was called "making the trip" or something like that.

if you want to talk about wagglers we used the same size TK one of the lads and idon't think choppie would remember him IVOR BILSON he made massive ones for normaton and sutton and we would fish the corro welland nene witham then ivan got hold of them and cut them down they casted 10 times better

Re wagglers.

We used to make massive long peacock wagglers for fishing well over on the Trent. They were that long you had to carry them in your holdall, honestly. We never used the coil wire, we preferred to peel back the skin of the quill and load them with big shot then seal them again.
The floats worked brilliantly for fishing well over on the Trent but feeding was a massive problem we never did sort out!!!

Does anyone ever remember the original Trentcaster stick floats? They were only available from Tom Watson's in Nottingham.
Most of the older Trentmen used to use them; best stick float ever made although you had to doctor them a tad.

Yep, remember as a young lad being taken to Tom Watson's to get some floats. Bit like a kid in a sweet shop only better !
Now here's one for you, who started the waggler fishing on the Trent at Nottingham ? He cleaned up for a while until others cottoned on.
A clue is they were not called wagglers then but Swingers !
Unfortunately he died a few years ago, any ideas ?

CWH - the more I think about it I have a vague recollection of an article on 'picking up the trip', not sure of the 'author' as it was so long ago and my memory isnt what it used to be.......

There certainly were some brill articles all in B&W all those years ago......the annoying thing those days was that you had to wait two months for the next edition

Hi can anyone tell me about john rolfe fishing floats i have a set and one is named in mint condition,all have same shotting pattern markings,??? but not same weights ,

Hi,
I can tell you a bit.
They (and that's if they are pear shaped balsa bottoms with reed stems) were called swingers and the first type of waggler to be used on the Trent. They were originally designed for fishing stillwater bream venues such as Attenborough.
Anyway John used them for the rivers and soon a lot of the top anglers were on it as it complemented the stick float with having a line further out in the river.
Basically all the bulk around the float with a few 8's down the line. Some did have a small bulk of 6's further down with 8's strung out from there.
This method was not widely used for a few years and those in the know had the middle of the river to themselves !!!
Later years straight peacock / insert peacock replaced these, however on rough windy days they are still a good pattern to use.

hi thank you very much,as i say i have the floats in mint condition as you have described them,there are all types of floats with shot patterns as strokes painted on the floats if you know what i mean,would you know if these were johns floats as well ,they are old of course,,,,,
