Mine and Gems Holiday in the Cotswolds
Tony (Spamwham) on here who I fish with on the Jinx matches asked if I could spare some time to repair a wall at his holiday cottage in the Cotswolds.
He said we could stay there for the week aslo si it would double up as a holiday.
I jumped at the chance and sorted out a free week to get down there.
On Monday we set off for the 79 mile journey at 11am and after just over an hour we had reached Bourton on the Hill and soon found the cottage (pre planning on google maps )
Tony and his wife were already there doing a bit of gardening. Tony took me to see the damaged wall and Gem went off with Tony's wife for a guided tour of the cottage.
The damaged wall from the cottage side...
The wall from the neighbours garden. 7 foot tall this side...
The lounge...
The Main Bedroom...
The back of the cottage...
Me and Gem set off to go to Moreton in the Marsh to get some food supplies for the week and we also went to Travis Perkins to get some building materials for the wall.
I estimated 15 bags of building sand and 3 bags of cement would be enough for the job (had to get 3 more bags of sand on the last day so wasn't far out)
Getting the materials back was not a problem... the Pug 106 has a good payload as we found out
She was a bit low
With the materials back at the cottage Tony had told me that rain was forecast for the next 2 days so I set up a tarp to keep me and everything nice and dry.
First day I cleared all the stones and soil out the way and rebuilt the back part off the wall which was about 6 foot high. Also back filled the gap behind with small bits of sandstone and soil. Compacts really well.
Breakfast and cups of tea were only a call on the walkie talkie away.
Here you go TK, a sneak preview of that sarnie I have ordered from you
Day 2 was me laying the garden side wall and backing it up. Gem was on hand to help move the stones from the lower side to the higher side. Thanks Gem
The final day I filled the cavity with more stone and mortar to make it nice and solid. Also I put the capping stones on the top. The finished repaired wall. Doesn't look like much but the wall is 6-7 foot on the other side...
We had a great time there and I hope some more walls fall down soon so we can go back again
Some more pics...
The garden.
Romeo, Romeo....
Nice sunset...
The church...
The local pub...
Tony doing a bit of window cleaning...
Thanks Tony. We had a brillaint time.
