Fished it loads years back TK
Cormorrants have wiped it out these days, there are some huge barbel and chub left.
Maybe 15 years or more ago the M6 was widened right next to the Tickled Trout Hotel, there is a deep glide towards the far bank (5 - 6 ft deep) with the extra cover of the motorway bridge nearly every chub in the Ribble found its way into thems pegs (max about 8 pegs). It was a shoulder to shoulder jobbie and you had to get there at least 2- 3am in the morning to secure a peg ! sometimes with mates etc you shared a peg and around 15 or 16 anglers would be crammed in them few pegs ! It only lasted about 12 months and the chub disappeared.
The very last peg towards the hotel was best where the deep glide shallowed up to a gravel bed ...... it was a waggler jobbie with a good chuck across the river loose feeding hemp and bronze maggots with 2 or 3 bronze maggots on the hook. I fished the said peg once only because i knew the lad who had been on it all day, i got there 6 ish in the morning and it was full up so i plonked my gear behind him, he said he had to go to work at 2 in the afternoon so i went for a kip in the car...... true to his word he packed up at 1.30 ,he tipped back around 70 lb of chub, i set up ......waded out 10 yards or so with my kit first chuck the float went under and i had a 2lb plus chub ! followed by another ...... and another .... all up to 3lb ish, i ended up with around 25 chub in 3 hrs ...... it was solid !!!!
Fished upstream at Ribchester a few times with my dad, there used to be loads of good roach and dace there in thems days but you had to catch the river right.
