How many of these have you read - what's the title of the book...........

1. Two households, both alike in dignity, in fair Verona where we lay our scene.

2. James Bond, with two double bourbons inside him, sat in the final departure lounge of Miami Airport and thought about Life and Death.

3. It was a bright cold day in April, and the clocks were striking thirteen.

4. Mr and Mrs Dursley, of number 4 Privet Drive, were proud to say that they were perfectly normal, thank you very much.

5. Here is Edward Bear, coming downstairs now-Bump, Bump, Bump, on the back of his head.

6. I was born in the year 1632, in the city of York, of a good family-though not of that country-my father being a foreigner of Bremen.

7. All the children, except one, grow up.

8. He was an old man who fished alone in a skiff in the Gulf Stream and he had gone 84 days without taking a fish.

9. When Mr Bilbo Baggins of Bag End announced that he would shortly be celebrating his eleventy-first birthday with a party of special magnificence- there was much talk and excitement in Hobbiton.

10. Call me Ishmael.

Worked out a couple of them on my own TK but must admit I then googled the rest.

One of my favourites would be

"Far out in the uncharted backwaters of the unfashionable end of the western spiral of the Galaxy lies a small unregarded yellow sun."

1. Romeo and Juliet. Shakespeare. Read it and acted in it while at school.
2. Goldfinger. Ian Fleming. Mum loved Ian Fleming's books but hated the Bond films.
3. 1984. George Orwell. Read it at school, and a couple of times since.
4. The Philosopher's Stone. J.K. Rowling according to the wife. ;)
5. Winnie The Pooh. A.A. Milne. Everyone must have read this at some time.
6. Robinson Crusoe. Daniel Defoe. I've got an 1890's edition that belonged to my Great Grandad.
7. Peter Pan. J. M. Barrie. My Mum's favorite as a little girl, and why I was christened Peter allegedly. :)
8. The Old Man and the Sea. Ernest Hemingway. Read it at school.
9. The Lord of the Rings. J.R.R. Tolkien . 1st read it at school and have probably read it a dozen times since ;).
10. Moby Dick. Herman Melville. Read it at school.

So I've read 9 of the 10. None of the Harry Potter books though.

Nice one Dave. Image

Brill Mugger Image Read 9 out 10 - that's impressive :o

I can only own up to 4 - perhaps I'm one of the few whove never read no 5 :D

Well done on just a few DaveC Image - I fell into the same category - even putting down one of the books I'd read whilst doing literature at school - Q1 - as The merchant of Venice :-[ :D

Far out in the uncharted backwaters of the unfashionable end of the western spiral of the Galaxy lies a small unregarded yellow sun

A great series - I remember a lady at work raving on about this when it was first played on the radio before hitting the screens

Must admit to still enjoying sitting down to read a good book when I get a chance. :)
In fact apart from sport I don't watch that much TV really.
Mum was a great reader, and it was her who encouraged me from an early age. Just another of those things that I'll always be grateful for.Image
