come on then its that time of year bloodworm and joker time [stay out of this one bill we know you hate the stuff] right lets be honest about this one.we all know that everyone has little secrets about the way they fish the bait IE G/B LEAMS FLOATS LINE HOOKS now without a doubt Shakespeare are the kids when it comes to winter fishing canals [i know tipton ,Nw are good]so lets start at the beginning whats your approach to are you one that dumps it all in and waits and what makes you decide to do this are one that feeds it all over the canal everyone tells you its the most simple bait in the world to use yet the names at the top of the pile are all the same
right i expect the first thing is pegs we all know fish shoal up in the winter months and at matches you always here your on a fly-er [bye the way you don't here that being said about me  Image]but at the end of the day the good anglers will still get the result at the end of the match ,where others come back with the same old story either admitting they had fished it wrong or the fish weren't there
so lets here the truth about bloodworm and joker  lets start with tackle floats whats the best shape to use

Not really right Joff, I have used it for the last 40 years. Image Image Image Image

I find there is no point in using it round here. Everybody to their own.

yes i've read it it's good Image but whats the peg like is it a good or a bad area  :-/ :-/ it's like you when you draw a peg there must be the odd thing you do differently I've fished with lee and without doubt one or two things came to light and i'm sure others would like to know

Joe Roberts fish our match Sunday he was drawn on the deeps the same peg as 35lb came off it yet because of the nature of bream and the conditions he didn't catch [my sort of luck]to me thats black and white end of. yet B/J fishing seems to have a little mystery i for one always come away thinking what more  could i of done to get more out of the peg even if i've had a reasonable weight off the peg. there is a fine line between success  and failure

Come on guys I could do with a few pearls of wisdom from you cracks……..

To set the scene
It’s a 4 hour match
‘Clearish’ cut - eg Wyrley Essington or Extension
Target weight 4 - 5lb small silvers

4 lines - down inside shelf - 4/5 mtrs, 2 across 9/10 mtrs bottom/just going up shelf and a further far line up the shelf. Or would you have more/less?

How much neat joker do you feed per each line to ‘kick off’?

Do you feed all lines from the off?

In achieving the target weight how much would you expect to feed throughout the match?

Do you feed any caster with the joker or have a separate ‘throw away’ caster line?

Does the type of joker eg Russian or Polish affect the way you would a) feed or b) present the bait?

Thanks in anticipation Image Image

TK, if you ever get the chance to compare russian joker to many other types you will notice that virtually no russian bounces up and down in the water, whilst belgium can have joker coming 6 inches off the deck. This can dictate the depth of which you will catch roach (or the better samples).
I would deffo feed all lines but have two negative ones just in case you are not on roach ! Why not have a caster line down the track with a bit of raw.
I think the answer to a bread and joker line at 10 and 2 should depend on the consistancy of bread on the venue. If it is good then do it, if not, a small and moderate to good feed of joker on the two lines instead.
A small leamed up ball at 4/5 m if you expect perch, up the joker content if roach.
If struggling put a small leamed up ball with not many joker down the track opposite to the caster line, to mug a few perch.
Try a white caster every now and again as big perch love em.
Sorry if I have taught you to suck eggs !!! Image

Certainly not CWH - ta Image

Havent seen any Belgian, but certainly recognise the inactivity of the Russian.......

I'm certainly picking up a lot of useful 'theory' from what are some good joker anglers - albeit it some of it with differing 'slants' - but the differing approaches with rigs/shotting etc are working for those anglers.

Only prob, my attempts to 'mimic' on my last two outings have not proved fruitful to say the least. But having said that the few crumbs of comfort that I can draw from the 'experiences' are that in all honesty my last couple of draws havent been particularly 'favourable' to say the least Image

I personally feed casters on all my joker lines, feeding varies on venues and weather.

TK i would always have a positive line and put a pot full in somewhere whether its 14 metres down the peg or in front of me sometimes it comes alive in a couple of hours or perhaps the last half a hour you have to give yourself a chance of a result i'm not saying it works on every canal but if i came over your way i would feel i'd got to give myself a chance Image

Cheers for the tips guys - much appreciated. Image

Also for the few pms on the subject ;) - I can appreciate that divulging particular hints and tips to the world could potentially dilute that 'edge' you have on fellow competitors - I'll 'lock' all that info away Image Image Image

Please keep 'em coming Image
