this is a subject close to my heart and i often get into a debate and get on my soap box to me there are several key points to this problem that have been left untouched for years by the waterboard government and local planners
A often the transport minister will use flood land for bypasses as its the cheapest form land this often diverts the natural course of the river that flows through that particular region plus must upset the watertables
B the building of new houses with no thoughts of proper drainage[shortcuts] or where the extra water goes off the block paved or slabbed drives and gardens and often built on reclaimed flood plans
C river maintenance tree's that have fallen in the rivers ditches that are over grown so water can't drain off the land properly silt that has closed rivers up ::) i did all this at school erosion and deposition of river banks its not rocket science so why haven't they done anything about it

[the next tax we will all have to pay for ] in this picture i have walked by 6 or 7 tree's all partly blocking the course of the river and this is a navigable stretch of river pennywort is another problem the E.A and B.W seamed to have brushed under the carpet yet will soon start crying about the amount of money it will cost to put it right [our money]but if they had done something about it when we the anglers had reported it would have cost very little thats some of my reasons why we are seeing more flooding its not all down to global warming just the lack of control from the powers that run these department's
