Willows evening match. 16th May
Got there at 5.20pm and started unloading the van. Went back to get some other things and the draw had taken place
The only peg left in was 38, so that's what I had to fish lol.
There was only 9 people there but I wasn't bothered. Just nice to fish up there again.
You only get 30 mins to setup so I only setup 3 rigs, one of those a shallow rig. Quick to setup and I had seen carp topping.
I setup a 7 meter line dead in front of me and a margin rig.
You can't use many baits up the willows(paste, pellet) so I just used hemp and corn, I also had some meat, maggots and caster but didn't intend to use them.
Just got setup and the all in came, I cupped in a handful of hemp and 10 lumps of corn into each swim and started on the 7 meter line. By this time it had started raining again ::) ::)
After 20 mins, not even a sniff so I moved onto the margin, I would have give it longer had it been a 5 hour match but these matches are only 3 hours and the margins are always better up the willows.
I waited for about 10 mins and the float went under and shot off towards the middle of the pool. It was good the catch a good carp again after the sh!t start I have had to the year 5 mins later I landed a 8lb common, fantastic fish and gave a right good scrap, made my arm ache
Went straight back but never had another touch until the last 30 mins
I hooked into another carp, not as big as I got him up to the top right away and saw it was a nice mirror. Couple mins later he was in the net, a nice 5lb'er
Missed a few more bites, but I think they were liners as they started to feed at the end of the match. Typical
I finished with 13lb for 2 fish and came 3rd. I got di*ked out of second by 7oz.. BOOOOOO
1st place weighed 17lb
The rain stopped just in time for us to pack up. Nice evenings fishing. Will be going next week too. Hopefully catch a few more.

Well done Si - one more lump and you'd have been home and dry. What pool did you fish?

Thanks mate. We fished the bottom pool, Brook pool. The evening matches are always on the Brook pool.
Willows evening match. 16th May
Reminds me of a Cashmore match we fished a couple of years ago, on the same Brook Pool, near the end of the league. KOD was about 10 points clear of me so I had to fish **** or bust.
It was relatively quiet down our end - heard they were catching at the far end and could see KOD was catching silvers. BDM nowt after 3 hours. Started to chase KOD on the silvers, but too slow, too small and I was too far behind.
After 4.30hrs I had about 8 oz in the net. I was back fishing meat up in the water. HaHa came down - missed my first bite all day on the meat. ****!
HaHa wandered off.
15 mins to go float dipped, lackie shot out 5/10 mins later the beastie - nearly double figures - is mine.
Another put in - slam. Another battle, another beastie not so big, but mine.
One more quick put in, ditto.
No time for another put in, but went from probably last to 4th in 15 mins.
That gave me a chance to win the league with a last battle with KOD that was fished at Shugborough Pool. (That match grueller was featured in Match Fishing so might bring a few memories back for KOD/HaHa/Zilch Meredith too)
Now what was that famous quote that Chappie the reporter made in the mag about HaHa
.

With you now Si...............you just have to bear with me a bit at my age - I'm not so quick on the uptake these days
To just clarify and clear up the confusion.........(as HaHa the celebrity fishing star has featured a number of times in a number of publications)
'Shame it didn't count' followed his live baiting exploits on The Trent in Midland Angler
'Mark Stanaway was a blanker (is that the correct word? :Editor)' was to be found upon the pages of Match Fishing when Chappie did a club write up on us at Shugborough a couple of years ago
