Never fished a commercial canal before so I was not much clued up. Over gunned my elastic starting on a 14 solid. Over estimated the size of fish and depth. Ended up making up a shallow rig for the far side on the bank and fished that line most of the match. Again, dont normally choose to do that, but in a match its necessary.
After some time in, not sure how long exactly as the phone I use as my timepiece had a wonky battery, i'd hooked 5 substantial fish and got one out ! Cussing what might have been I ploughed on but dropping my elastic down to 12 and then a 10, thinking it might be part of the problem, but could just have been foul hookers ::) who knows.
Plugged away picking up the odd bit and small carp while trying to avoid those tiny carplets. About three quarters through hooked a lump which got me out of jail to a degree. Turned out to be a nice ghostie which gave me many heart stopping moments as the lined pinged over its fins during a lengthy tussle, although that was nothing compared to the length of orange no10 lacky it pulled out, which I know caught the attention of quite a few. I was trying to keep my cool, knowing whatever it was could almost double what I had in the net at that point.
All in all an enjoyable afternoon and after several frustratingly quiet periods, I felt was just getting into my stride when the the toot toot came for the final whistle. I need longer matches
