Well here goes , what I'm about to tell you might lead you to think I've lost my marbles but it is all completely true !  It must of been over 20 years ago that i first came across Mark Hutchinson when i fished for a local Hull team and Mark for slady thingyhorpe in the Ancholme winter league. At the time the matches were 144 pegs over different stretches of river and when i say that Mark never lost his section for a 3 to 4 year period showed that he was/had something special ! You might think well hey , that's nothing new but Mark also did that on the Saturday league ,  as well as travelling to the tidal River Hull and winning 3 to 4 80 plus peg opens . Bearing in mind that 8lbs was a very good weight and the winters were a lot colder, his method of balling it in and then doing it again when bites tailed off were somewhat different , add this to the fact he generally fished a bomb over the top (on a stood river) things didn't add up.            It was generally believed that Mark had stumbled across something special which he fed in balls of ground bait and you really had to witness it to believe it . In one match i drew next peg downstream and on a freezing cold day he blitzed the section with a big 4 lb and i was 2ND with 1lb 10 (his stuff washed downstream) the next weight was ounces and on another November day with ice forming in the margins he caught 2 tench to win the match , he even did it in Ireland . People were of the opinion that he had found some type of stimulant/pheromone that triggered the fish to feed and Mark played to the crowds by filling an atomizer with say strawberry flavour and spraying it in the air so the wind took it downstream (everyone's noses were off like rabbits) he even left little piles of ground bait in his peg after the match to get people going , and that he did . This lasted for maybe 5 of so years and after his run on the River Hull some sad individual felt it necessary to leave a picture of a dagger on his windscreen with a note saying don't come back ! After this he joined up with Whizzo to produce his fizzy feed ( primarily hemp based) but without THE mix , and then he was gone . I've not seen him for 15 years and its thought that he cant get the "stuff" anymore and as I've said , you really had to be there

It was said that whatever he was using he got after a trip to America and he couldn't get it anymore , some will say their is no such thing as a "magic bait" but to see him catch 4lb with blanks all around was just crazy but he did it all the time . We even had bank runners sit behind him for 3 hours and he wouldn't catch and then when they'd cleared off he'd sack in the last 2 hours !
