and you wonder why a brilliant pool thats had features done on it by most of the main angling mags inc matt haynes spending a day there for IYCF as been wrecked by pr1cks off the mosley est. This pool contains carp in there mid 20's and pike in the high 20's plus loads of good weighted perch, roach and bream. It takes me less than 5 mins to walk from my house to this pool and have had many cracking days down here until idiots like this started fcuking it up. >:( >:(

Hi ME, no

I knew why it was called Baileys - that was the name it was called when I was a kid - it was more like a tip those days, with old cars in it etc.

My father in law actually lived in the canal house that stood on the junction opposite the waterways yard before he went off to war - his father worked for BWB 50 years - I've still got his commerative stuff somewhere (that reminds me, I was gunna dig it out for MGB about 2 years ago :-[) He also policed the waters and did day tickets on there 60+ years ago. The father in law was also a brickie on the cuts before and after the war.

However whilst we both know the Sneyd Reservoir, which obviously also existed way back then, the father in law always referred to Baileys/Swan pool as 'Sneyd Pool'

Yep I know 'Goughies' - we used to call it 'Oily Goughies' back in the 60's, - talking to the father in law a few years back it carried the same name back to the 40's when he used to go swimming in it and doing his 'courting' round there

Just scrolling down google maps now - the first pool 'south' of the canal junction , between the cut and the motorway was called 'Garringtons' when I was a kid - cuss Garringtons had the fishing rights to it for a couple of years

With the passage of time, names do change.......I still call it the 'school pool' - it didnt exist until they built the school about 30 years ago............destroying another pool in the process that was down by the tennis caughts just before you went under the motorway bridge into Crab Lane.

The canal house no longer exists - it was on the towpath side right opposite the waterways yard - it was derelict when we were kids. We often used to play in it - having battles where one gang of us defended it, the others attacking it. Half the roof tiles and loads of 'half end duckers' ended in the cut as we nearly killed each other in the process Image

Last time I walked over there about 10 years or more back, you could just make out the footings as nature reclaimed the area it stood in
