what is the best way to prepare Liccy for the cut,is it just cut off the crusts and blend and then bag it up, or is there a technique in how to prepare this stuff.

Yeah, loads of ways of doing liccy bread and everybody believes that they do it the best.
To be honest I used biscuit meal for around five years, hard to get, even harder to mix but worked brillantly for skimmers, had some good catches on it but have run out and can't find any anywhere.

Just done some; got a stale loaf from Asda (free) and lightly baked it in the oven (you can keep the crusts on or not, it makes little difference, I take mine off). It takes quite a while, you want it completely dry but not turned brown. When dry put it through the grinder; riddle it and through the grinder again until you can riddle it through a fine flour riddle. Just damp it with a spray bottle before use and damp your feeding cup too. Be careful not to put too much in, little and often is the way to go.
One important point is that if you freeze your mix, then sieve it again it appears to be finer than before.
You can re-use it loads of time by putting in the freezer what you have left.
There you have it, a top cut bait for a few pence of electricity.
It does take a while to do properly, you can't rush it.

Has anyone tried any Atomic Punch on the canals around your way. Would be interested in your views.

We have tried all sorts of bought g'bs on the cuts. Without doctoring them they are generally miles too coarse.

Never tried Atomic Punch though; we all do our own; costs nowt!

Key things about using a 'groundbait' for punch fishing.
The reason bites often dry up quick is because the groundbait is full of feed (bread) and they have had enough.
You need a g'b that will last the course.
The canals are full of roach nowadays and there should be no reason why you only catch for half an hour or so.
I have experimented with all sorts of additives in the punch mix too; don't think any of them make any difference.
If anyone can find any good old fashioned biscuit meat let me know but I think it is a thing of the past now.

Just had a couple of more thoughts about bread punch g'b.
The mix I described works on all the canals in our area; it doesn't matter one bit if the canal is coloured either.
Perhaps if the cut is tugging through a bit like the Beeston or apparently the GU off the Soar a more coarse groundbait will work, like Joff mentions.
However my stuff will still work well, it does on the Beeston anyway but you need more of it and you have to keep putting it in. You can get through as much as two x 2 pt baitbox fulls on the Beeston and still be catching, honestly!

The Atomic punch has no feed content and will certainly not fill them up.LOL

The idea is baased around the cloud effect and with the fish searching out your only piece of hookbait in the cloud.

keith on occasions have you found you have to feed a lot and other days very little if you are feeding the roach with very little content of feed yes i can see that your hook bait is being taken. but in some of the cases i've been in to keep the fish you have to feed them or they move i take it you are fishing a hard canal i dont think you would get away with it at march on the old nene

More to the truth I have never seen anyone round these parts use Atomic Cloud. Someone might put be right but where can I buy a bag to try it; Always willing to give 'owt a go.
Fred Cheetham gets through five loaves of bread in normal household use. He uses the crusts only. His weekly bait bill is a tackle dealers nightmare.
He does win a few bob on it too.

For winter canal punch fishing budgie try this mate.......

Buy the loaf a week before your next match, open both ends of the wrapping and leave open for 3 days, the bread should now have firmed up a little for it to liquidize correctly, cut all the crusts off and liquidize the whole loaf, you should get around 2 clear sandwich bags of liccy, put them in the freezer till the night before your match,then take 1 bag out and defrost for about 4 hours (enough for at least one match) then put the lot through the blender again,this should turn it into very fine powder like" liccy "

luvly

any you dont use during the match just pop back in the freezer.

For the hook always use fresh bread slices

For skimmers and bream i have found rolled bread better for hooking

For roach just use bread straight from the loaf

Bill, ive not seen, used, or know anything about this atomic punch ect but if its got zero feed id guess it works simular to how the carnation milk works. Some cut anglers around here used carnation milk as feed (a liquid bait). They used to pour a little bit in to the cut and that drop exploded into a cloud burst which stretched from the surface to the bottom. Some of the old chaps used to mix crushed/ powdered hemp to the milk so it still made the cold but did contain feed. Ive also know some add flavourings to it as wel to get a bit more of an edge.

Bill, Joff,

A lot of venues where the bread catches you have to feed liccy in, however have you tried and thought you have just killed it with your first pot.

Quite often a softly softly approach will reap longer rewards by keeping the feeding fish for longer whilst they are searching around.
