TEAM ANGLER OR OPEN ANGLER
TEAM ANGLER OR OPEN ANGLER
Following on from reading in A/T this week about the interview with Mark Downes. Mark says that he has no interest in open match fishing, he is only interested in team fishing. Now, although my first love is team fishing, I also love open fishing as it takes you away from the pressure of the team match and lets you do your own thing every now and again. Now I know the majority of lads on here are all team anglers however I also know a lot have excellent success on the open match scene. What are your views on Marks commments

ropas like you i'm a team man through and through i have read what mark has put down on paper and agree with a lot of it
when you draw a bad peg and you don't catch should you be dropped ??i would say no but i also disagree a little as i would struggle to get the whole team to have three days off work to practice .mark is very lucky a lot of his team are in the fishing trade and seam to be able to work around these practice days
opens i do like fishing them and you can try different things in pegs where if it was a team match you would pursue team points
the down side of open fishing is if you draw crap whats the point in fishing the peg as other pegs will always win the section and your knowledge will tell you that
for me its team fishing

the other point i'd make is that the tackle shops around here couldn't rely on opens for trade as most anglers don't go unless its a team match

What would give you the greatest pleasure??? Your team winning a major event or you individually winning a major festival/final????

i enjoy team matches more especially the bigger matches, teams of 3's i can take them or leave them, its nice to take the pressure off now and then get the old rod and reel out and do something different

I like to glory hunt in the summer and then get my team head on in the winter.

Just happy to be fishing any cut, occasional river but I suppose my regular Irish trips are my favs. Been over there over 60 times and loved every minute of it.
Also like pleasure fishing.
Seem to do OK in Nationals; consider myself fortunate to get in any team in the winter cuz I catch crappity smack all.
Still love fishing, never had a break from it in over 50 years.
Prefer to fish in the country than a town or city any day of the week. If I ever got in a commie team it would be to carry the drinks, - they wouldn't get far though.
Team fishing, open fishing, pleasure fishing, it all beats doing the crappity smack washing up.
Sooner chuck the crappity smack in the wheelie bin and buy some more.
