if you want a league we [me ,lee and another] could give it you but i tell you now
1 it would'nt be on rivers
2 it would be a listed 10 anglers no there anglers per team [8 fish]
3 venues would be in 4 areas of the midland
4 could include lakes but no commercials
5 lee and myself would be paid
6 it would be limited at the first to get the ball rolling
what do you think

if you want a league
Joff,
A few years back in my little domain we had the following leagues, all in winter, all running at the same time
AT West Mids, AT South Staffs, AT Staffs
Wolvehampton, Five Towns and Izaak Walton.
Every one of them had over 100.
They are no more
I often think I have seen the best of it.

Mr Miester,
Once a month, say the first Sat or Sun is spot on; this stops countless phone calls asking you when it is.
I tried a Summer League, (every Sunday) and had 55 in it for two years. Last year I was pledged SEVENTEEN teams and had just a handful hence the League Lee is running.
I booked waters all over the place, pubs for the draw etc. I was not amused and had to cancel the lot.

fair play mate i think i'm about at the end of my tether running matches on a small scale team matches are the way forward but if the same team dominates for one or two years it all go pear shape again
i don't know what the answer is but one thing is sure i'l be over your way a bit more i like them chub pegs
its a shame because around here we do have a lot of different venues yet most prefer going on club matches or lake view hook a duck fishing or ten peg knockups
i'l finish the summer league this year then thats it for me i hope lee and myself come up with a league even members only and say stick to 50 names that won't let you down
£10 to become a member then we will run the matches around the area

Joff,
One of my pet rants is that do anglers realise what they are paying for their hook a duck fishing. I.e. the peg fee. Do they ever produce a balance sheet anywhere?
I know it is very rare but I had over 20 lb of fish on Sat and Sun, -total cost of peg fees was £2
How many hook a duck anglers throw £14 or £16 a week away without knowing it?

gud on yer
if you want a league
the ideas spoken of are good to hear and the right way to go. as a suggestion for getting the best out of the fishing though the time of year that the league ran would be a concern for me. alot of leagues are either to early effecting the fishing due to spawning or to late and subject to overnight frosts. late summer / autumn would be great and the roach should be going mad around then .when are you considering running the league?

we have only just thought about it mate but i would think august onwards and see how that goes and then probably the same after christmas with B/J allowed
it won't be until next year most leagues are booked now
but we are hoping the B/J might happen after christmas

The idea of a new league is sound. You can blame me for introducing bigger squads as I am certain I was the first to have separate teams for rivers, lakes and canals; how was I to know hook a duck fishing was going to come along!
I think it is probably time to turn full circle and in a way it is irrelevant how many a side are in this league, what is relevant is how many can you name. If it was eight a side, say name eleven, ten say thirteen and so on. I would also not be averse to actually having a very occasional river in.
This would not only be a good league I am sure the all round fishing would be of benefit to future Drennan England teams. OK Drennan England teams are really doing well at the moment but what about in ten years time, that is what we should be looking at; it is then that the current trend of hook a duck fishing will effect this. Maybe that is another thread to discuss though.

if you want a league
how would you feel if match fishing became a members only club ::) ::)
i've had this idea for some time
lets say you have 50 anglers on your books each pays £10 to be a member
so we have £500 in the pot
5 or 6 matches are booked on different venues ie barston staffs/w
beeston or loughborough canal
all 50 get first come first serve and if for any reason they cant make the match we then use a part of the £500 so all the payouts are the same and whats left is payed out
what do you think
open individual matches are a nightmare to run and this way no one will be disappointed if the turnout falls as the payout will be the same
