Instead of having the final on a river why not have it on a commercial, somewhere like Cudmore perhaps
And instead of tackle companies having to lug all their products to Peterborough on the Nene then two weeks later take it all to Cudmore perhaps they should have the final the day after the fishomania final.
If they did then perhaps they would then make it only 6 anglers in a team.
I'm not sure it would be welcomed in certain places so perhaps another sponsor, a major groundbait company perhaps, would start their own winter final along the same lines as the AT event but have their final on a river.
If it went on Thorne in July its no bloodworm so it'll be a lot less expensive and there's even enough room to double peg it . We fished a N.E.Region and a drennan on it a few weeks back and it fished OK in general . Cant see it ever happening though

so they cut teams down to six, two teams qualify from each league dorking put two teams in both qualify, starlets put two teams in both qualify great for the other teams
i would think ken wade has had enough of clearing pegs out on the nene only to get balled at by anglers telling him its the worst venue ever fished in july
fact cut the cost no b/joker
fact move the date if your in the final surely you don't mind when it is
fact canals are better than river now'er days [stainy good choice]
fact ken can't run theses matches on his own he needs help from other sectors
fact if teams are reduced now in size there will be no going back once you loose it it never comes back
fact this is a serious times in the hole of match angling
unless you stand up and start voicing your opinions there will be very few matches in the coming seasons
I would'nt like to see the AT WL Final on a narrow Midlands canal; they will def not stand the pressure of practise day and day out with or without bloodworm.
Gloucs and Stainy are probably better choices; bigger waters and should stand the pressure better .
the death nell will sound if the final gets moved to a ditch. the stainy , navy or the gloucs canal or maybe even the soar ? any of these more traditional venues should be used first. reducing the numbers of anglers in each team would only work IF teams were only aloud to enter ONE team with a maximum squad LIMIT allowing two reserves.

The problem is the anglers that dont fish just get lost from fishing, when teams went from 12 to 10 we didn't get more teams just anglers walking the bank or taking the missus shopping.
it is a dilemma for the big guns i agree. however in terms of match fishing (non ditching) there are teams out there who cannot really compete due to the size of squads although many still turn up ready for slaughter week in week out. by reducing numbers the better anglers will be spread out more evenly . teams like shakey for example could field a canal , river and a ditch team if they wished . if some leagues were reduced as suggested the relentless domination of one or two teams will be stopped. in my eyes fishing for some has become less about enjoyment and more like work.
If this is the case with the final moving to a commercial why were the league organisers/ squad captains not consulted?
I really cant understand why they would want to move it off a river...
I'm sure if you were to ask ALL the finalists from the last five years you would struggle to find many teams that would want it moved to a commercial.
The AT winter league has always been run by the captains of the teams involved with Ken Wade having the final say in any disputes and in my opinion thats the way it should stay.
