dose any one now were I can get spears for avon beam scales from. I neen the little spring under the beam ( ? wot does the spring do)

I have given my last proper springs away.
You will have a problem getting any, suggest you find a couple of 'old style' ordinary clocks and use a short length of spring from the coil inside; you will need to pinch two small holes in it. You don't need too strong a spring.
I have also tried plastic, - it doesn't work because of the variation in temperatures

There was a batch of later beam scales that did away with even using a spring altogether - they looked the same minus the spring. I would test yours out before you do anything because you may a set of these.

Contact Avon scales for any spares mate the league which I used to run has 6 sets of beam scales we have just bought new baskets off Avon and some spare weights and legs
I think that stock is very limited but there is some spares left
