Southport DAA Charity Canal Open - 10th May
There's a mix of everything you'd expect in a canal really, all the way along. Mainly roach, skimmers, perch. There are some shoals of proper bream which are quite territorial at that time of year as well as tench, a few crucians and there are some carp too as well as the odd chub and snigs. There are some good perch (4lb odd) which can pop up along the whole length and we've even had the odd golden orfe appear too.

I should add that the length being used for this match is approximately 4 miles long and there are no locks on it, so theres not much flow. Its predominantly a bread water, although caster, hemp and worm all account for good catches all the way along.
You can do 15-20lb on a pleasure chuck without too much of a struggle and we have had people returning 100-120lb of bream when they've dropped on them - but all canals have notable locations where this happens I suppose. Match weights can be in the upper teens or higher if certain pegs have the bream on them at the right time.
At that time of year, anywhere can produce on the day, so we're hoping for a good match which will raise some money for charity and put a smile on people's faces.
