MAP rod takes big canal win.
MAP and Sensas backed ace, James Dent has won the third round of the Thorne Teams Of Three league on the Stainforth & Keadby Canal. The 22 year old from Yarm, Cleveland, beat a field of 71 anglers, to win the day with 21-3-0.
James enjoyed a good early run of fish on bloodworm and joker, before turning his attention to casters, fished at 16 metres. Roach to 12 ozs graced his net, though as the final whistle sounded, he wasn't sure whether he had done enough to beat local ace, Johnny Freeborn. Drawn on peg 165, Johnny caught big roach on hemp fished on the long pole. As it turned out, Johnny's 20-9-0 left him just short of the mark.
In a remarkable match, 11 of the 13 five peg sections were won with double figure nets, with the winning team recording a combined total of 54-11-0. Again, it was James's Ultimate Barnsley team who lead the charge here, with his two team mates, Andy Geldart and Dave Brookes jr contributing 15lb 8oz and 18lb to the tally respectively, for a three match total of 133-11-0.
This now gives Ultimate Barnsley team a 22lb 5oz lead over runners up, 'Pole Fishing,' comprising of Matt Godfrey, Lee Kerry and Tom Scholey.
Result:
1 James Dent (Ultimate Barnsley Blacks) 21-3-0 (peg 162)
2 Johnny Freeborn (Sensas North) 20-9-0 (peg 165)
3 Dave Brooks (Ultimate Barnsley Blacks) 18-0-0 (peg 209)
4 Alan Scotthorne (Halkon Hunt) 16-9-8 (peg 230)
5 Matt Pillay (Dynamite Baits) 16-6-0 (peg 229)
6 Helen Dagnall (Colmic +1) 16-2-8 (peg 259)
Teams On The Day
1 Ultimate Barnsley 54-11-0
2 Sensas North Red 47-4-0
3 Halkon Hunt 42-12-0

Amazing how the early pegs in the 160s hold so many fish year in year out despite the battering they take
