River Welland here i come all week i've been looking forward to this match plus the week was full of preparation. hooks tied, rigs made and a few floats doctored kit wise everything done .come saturday time to prepare my punch crumb while i was watching the rugby mixing it then letting stand then mixing it again until it was perfect .

while i did that the hemp was cooking nicely and just time for a cheek pint before the Tank commander came home Image Image

Up at the crack of dawn and heading over to spalding Via Rutland water this time ::) ::) ::) and i can honestly say i've never seen the place so full of water :o :o :o. arrived in good time and only thinking about the draw my partner asked which section i want to be in and replied heads for A section. At this point it ment nothing to me and i drew 19 boards :-/ :-/ Then Wayne said you'l like that peg and you'll know how to get there Image Image "WHY" it's the peg i was on the last match :o Image Image Image
well i didn't know what to say Image Image and off i went
as i pulled up i realised it looked a lot different Image Image it was very coloured and YES 6inches down on the previous match Image Image never mind i thought its full of roach 8-) 8-) 8-) i should know

Yes you guest it the nicest bloke in fishing the legendary Bob Nudd had drawn my peg from the previous week. if you don't know Bob Nudd he is the a proper gent and always has time for you and we soon started chatting about the past. Bob rarely fishes anywhere else apart from the fens and Ireland where he was saying he goes for upto 3 months a year :o :o you know when you're in trouble when he started getting his kit out and all the rigs are attached to the top 2 sections Image Image. my doctored floats and rigs looked great and i set up a couple of hairy fairy chinanti floats 4x12 4x14 just in case

I had desided after last time to fish a section closer 4m and feed another a section futurerat 5m and swap lines if needed .sounded a plan to me so ifeed 2 balls on one and 1 on another i watched the others feed and it was about the same baited up with a 5mm punch just to see what would happen Image Image nothing happened left or right no one had caught 10 mins and then Bob caught a small roach Image Image
after the first hour we had all caught but it was very hard. I had to fish down my peg and wondered if i had fed too much at the start still the fish i was catching were a lot better than Bobs. Yet Bob could catch smaller ones and faster Image Image by this time my best punch was 3mm and the hary fairy rigs keeping them still and over depth. This worked for one or two fish and then you'd have to change again .Anglers from all of the other sections had started to walk it was fishing trouble right through .I'd noticed Rob Wootton on the end catching and his fish were bigger especially later on . At the end of the match i held my head in my hands i just couldn't believe my luck drawing two brilliant pegs yet couldn't convert them into wins or section wins at that Image Image Image

Image
my 4lb14oz Bob won the section by default with 8lb :-/ :-/ Rob Woottons 13lb earned him 2nd in the match quality photo taken by me Image

Just hoping i can get it right soon i honestly thought i'd fished a good match Image Image Image Image

Another good write up Joff, how long did it take you to mix your ground bait, when I have mixed up white crumb it normally takes about two hours to get it to the right consistency ,pity the river was out of sorts again, is there any more opens on the Welland before the end of the season?

No Dave thats it Wayne normally has 4 a year on there and inbetween they have a league else where plus matches at March .The lads are well organised and get together so no matches clash  Image Image
Dave the good thing about these places like March they are sheltered and you don't need 16m poles 7m or 8mtrs plus great fishing  Image

Yes you can still fish there although Wayne has finished his matches it's all free fishing right through the town . Just mind where you park in the week as they do have parking wardens around Image that's for the message Image
