Once again we we're at the mercy of some diabolical weather the previous days storms had flooded the River Glen so the whole match was back on the Town Welland.The match itself was fished in torrential rain with gusty winds.As the match started the top end of the length started to colour up badly this made it a match of distinctly two halfs. A zone at the top end was quite poor B zone was absolutely solid with Roach producing over a dozen 20lb weights.Leading the way was Drennan ace Wayne Swinscoe pegged two swims above the tax office bridge,a good area he employed the time honoured method on this venue breadpunch fished around 6metres both to hand and short line.Wayne was in good company pegged between a host of fenland baggers,the top four came from this area.After 5hours of brilliant roach fishing Wayne put 220 fish on the scales for a thumping 41lb 9oz to run out a comfortable winner.2nd three pegs upstream was Alister Ogilvie with 31lb 10oz just ouncing out Wayne's stablemate Steve Winters who had 31lb 9oz.
Wayne and partner Chris Jenkinson was top pair on the day with 49 lb putting them well contention for the title.

Drennan Pairs League Town Welland
final round report
The one consistent theme in this year's Drennan pairs league has been the fowl weather, again on Sunday gales, rain and chocolate coloured water greeted the slightly depleted field . I think just about everyone has had enough?
Maybe not rising star Alex Bates who has made this series his own ,two outright wins a section first and third propelled him and partner Steve Slater to league champions.His latest win came from a peg by the town bridge always a good area in difficult conditions,short lining breadpunch at five metres he set about the hoards of small roach that frequent this area,300 fish later, his 17lb was more than enough for a comfortable win.Ten pegs below Alex, Rob Wootton was fishing a steady match putting together a net of stamp roach around eighty fish for 13lb 6oz and runner up spot,third in A zone was John Taylor pegged next to Alex he had12lb 12oz of small roach again on the bread.
B zone was awful Graham Barry with just seven roach for 2lb 13oz easily claimed victory,runner up Martin Roper had just 12oz followed by Steve Hemmingrey with 10oz.
On the pairs league front, the top six pairs were paid out with cash and prizes.
