Matrix and Dynamite backed youngsters dominate canal matches.
Matrix Dynamite Trentmen has long been a respected team on natural venues - but it is the squads youngest anglers which have been making the headlines over the last few weeks.
In the 60+ peg Burton Teams Of Four league on the Trent & Mersey Canal, the aptly named ‘Matrix Dynamite Trentmen Schoolboys’ team is leading the field. In the most recent round which took place last Sunday, the squads most senior member, Lee Wright, lead by example winning the match outright with a massive 34lb net of chub, which helped the team to a round win on the day and cemented their place on the top of the table.
The previous day, on the 56 peg Erewash Valley Winter League, victory fell to fellow Trentmen rod, 22 year old Sam Randall – with a 15-5-0 net of roach and skimmers. Sam caught quality fish on bloodworm and caster tactics. The team are lying in second place in this league, behind Shakespeare Superteam.
The squad’s success is not just limited to narrow canals either – on the penultimate round of the Northern Sensas Challenge on the Stainforth & Keadby Canal, three Trentmen teams took the top three places. They even beat the mighty Ultimate Barnsley teams into fourth and fifth places on the day. In the league overall,Trentmen teams are lying in second and third place respectively, just a few points behind the Barnsley team that is leading the field.
A Matrix Dynamite Trentmen team is also currently lying second in the popular Rilmac league on the Fossdyke Canal.
The teams vice captain, Tom Scholey, commented: “It’s great that the team is doing so well, and our newest signings are proving to be worth their weight in gold. After a disappointing Winter League campaign last autumn, everyone was on a bit of a downer. We knew that more anglers were needed, and signed Matt Parkin, who works in Nathans Of Derby, and last years Evesham Intermediate Champion, Tom Potter. Both live within our traditional Nottingham/Derby heartland, and since they signed for us, both have seemed incapable of drawing badly!
We have just made a couple more exciting signings too, in the shape of former Fish ‘O’ Mania finalist, Greg Cooper, and promising Mansfield youngster, Cameron Cross. The enthusiasm that these younger anglers bring, along with the proven big match experience of anglers like Rob Perkins, Ant King and Dean Cherrington can only be a good thing for us going forward. There is a real buzz about everyone at the moment, and we are all really excited about the forthcoming year.”

Matrix dynamite Trentmen bounce back
Fair play to trentmen for rebuilding there squad with young anglers its a pity more youngsters are not into fishing like when i started in the 80s i would go to juvenile matches in stoke and there would be 40 50 upto 60 kids fishing some matches well done trentmen

Matrix dynamite Trentmen bounce back
Drew next to Tom on sunday and had a good chat i think Trentmen had a season like i had a few years back with Leicester sensas .He was telling me they had found a few good young anglers and seem more determined than ever to put things right .
In fairness it was only the winter league last year that put a damper on their year doing well in the Div1 NATIONAL and the Commercial National plus Evesham so it looks to be a good year for them
