Not long now to the next set of festivals in Ireland, I shall be making my way up north for Rod Scotts match 2nd week in september on and around the erne. Very strange things happening at the moment, big shoals of bream and 3lb Hybrids being caught over last couple of weeks from pegs they havent been in for many years and some areas they have never been in, is this the start of the come back of ireland fishing?? :-/ :-/

Was just wondering if anyone from the site was venturing over for this match or the world pairs etc?? Image Image

So the rumour has it, the best its fished in a fair few years. Hope they still want to play in September Image Image

Fished Muckno last year a few times in prep and in the world pairs, some good sport to be had Image

Bream showing/odd big roach in all sorts of strange places on the Erne; I speak to Baz Smith quite regular so blame him if they crappity smack off Image
You will know if it fishing if Baz is fishing the Erne; if the fish have fooked off he will as well, down to Muckno Image

Been going to Muckno for over 10 years now. Last year (September) was the worst its ever been by a long way. All the commotion putting those roads in did a fair bit of damage and pushed the fish right out well out of pole range. It is patchy when it is all feeder. When it is right 10k is last in all the sections; on some you catch 4 to hand, whether that will come back I don't know.
Concra was always one of the best pole sections, pole was tough last year and they are not catching there now, except at massive range on the feeder. Time to change yet Image

Yes we was told pretty much the exact same last year, a lot of effort been put into the access and pegs though so will be worth it in the long run. Very few bream were caught, only an odd one on the last two days but that again could be down to the work leading up to it. We used to fish a place up north near bow island, they called it gingers. It was a bream a chuck at times there and always a few caught until a jetty was put in to the flats there, the big machines knocked them fish off for several months, they do return eventually though Image

Fished Gingers a bit a few years back.
I think it is in the trout bit now; when I fished it they started banning everything so we give it up.

Fished one bit one day, where the bridge crosses the lough, never seen so many roach that was before we got turfed off In the trout 'half' again.

Muckno, Black Island has always been the best section for bream, - big deep hole, short chuck.
You could get odd 'uns anywhere though. Used to get a few on pole at Concra but other than skimmers ain't seen many in the last few years.
There is another Lough near Muckno called Lough Ross, it splits the border. Once its fished a bit it gets better and better, pole, waggler or feeder.
It's not the Lough Ross where the Sillees runs out of (shyte 'ole) - that one is too fooking dangerous.

Went up Enniskillen in May; had a decent whack of roach one day on Ely, most around 1 lb to 1 lb 8 oz to feeder.
Only went the one day, fished some of the nearby loughs (not Acrussel) and had a fair few tench and hybrids. We sometimes get a pass to fish Derryvullan on the Erne, that can be solid with proper bream and odd big tench, the bream are the biggest I've ever seen on the Erne.
I think they used to use Derryvullan in the Festivals (generally won there) until some fooker left the gate open. Image Image
One of the farmers takes us and our gear down there.

Heard Cleenish and Cleenish Island are fishing OK now

Yes that's the right bit, we had hell on last time we went there, they came and took my net out and stopped us all fishing, it was the same day the jetty was going in though so didn't cost me to much. Another brilliant place the trout lot stopped us fishing was Maho, its about 10 mile past Ely, that was good bream fishing in very deep water over a shelf but they stopped us using it in the end. Seen the highs and lows in both May and September over the years, stopped going for 5 year since I started going Holland but the pairs got me back again, enjoyed the fishing and craaaack but the travelling made it harder than work, getting up at 6 aint a fishing holiday. So this year going back but just on festival in north, draw around 10ish so no need be up till9 and fish 12 / 1 while 5 / 6 Image Image

Yes, we chistened that section Mr Magoo's! There were loads at bank space and, if it is the same place, about the widest bit of the lough without islands.
Took a bit of a while to get used to that sharp ledge. I doctored a Normark Vemura float rod to a tip rod and used it for years. Got stuck on that ledge at Magoos and an bost the crappity smack into about a dozen bits, - still got the bream though.

Derryvullan is a bay, some years it is detatched from the main Lough, not far past the Killy on your right, - not easy to find, - Enniskillen Angling Club had permission to fish it but not now, it is our little Hidey Hole. We stop in one of those big old houses right by the gates at Muckno, walk to town and walk to the draw, spot on. Great big shed for bait, washing, drying, everything. She don't advertise, we have been there evey year since it has opened, never book in just turn up, she leaves us the key out. Big breakfasts, flasks filled for nowt and she always knocks a day off the bill at the end. Best drinking pub in Ireland in the Horseman, Guinness like nectar. I get the yellow stream taken out of me rotten as sometimes I am still in Horseman as they draw and have been known to miss the odd day Image Image Image Image Image Image Image Image Image
Top town Blayney. Image Image Image Image

Still up to 4am at my tender years Image Image Image Image Image

Sounds the same place bill, we was told its 7 mile across, funny as no matter what peg you draw out of the 16 we used to use, everyone says they are chucking to the little whit house in the middle of the hills on the far bank Image Image

Every year it always fished the same 1 - 3 produced the 40 / 50 kilo of bream 4 - 8 used to catch 20 / 30 kilo mixed bag then there was the jetty 9 and 10 which were always iffy but above 10 to the end you caught nothing but big roach for up to 25k, cracking place that used to be.

Take my hat off to you for the late ones Image Image, done my fair share in the past but not so often anymore, in fact its rare they open past 1 in Enniskillen these days Image Image
