It wasn't me that lost a pair of £400 glasses walking around the digs for 2 hours..... I was lovely and cozy on a sofa nice and warm lol
To be honest, it was a cracking first night for the pair of you?? First time id been on town that night in 6 years, think there will be plenty more from now on though??
Ayway enough of this
Wots your opinion on the state that our silver fish sport is in ????
Yer pair of yellow streamheads
Its struggling Peds?? Better access and plenty of TLC and we might get there? But until the WB realise thats what natural venues need to keep up with the times then we are stuffed? Thing is the youngens today just will not fish a canal? When I was a kid that was pretty much all i fished, very few commercials around and those that were not many fished so i new know different. Now every 2 mile around us is another com, if not 2 or 3 in that distance, I take my lad to cut and he pulling his hair out in half an hour, I take him to coms and he sits there most the day. Aside from that, when we do go cut and he talks to his mates, its as though he has been punished??? How do we ever move forward??
Catch ya drift lee but scratchin fo a fish wont do lad any harm
Think crowle to keadby end of cut still has potential.
stuffed wi fish plus park behind every peg!""
Shame really if only EA would sort weed problem out !
needs dredging really but doubt its financially viable to them
I have recently returned to match fishing after a 10 year break. I could not believe the attendance on what used to be the Warwickshire Angling Times Winter League. Gone were the teams of 12, infact the amount of teams that enterd was dismal. Just 5 teams of 8. 40 anglers where 100 anglers was the norm. Whats more was, that the 40 anglers that were there, was the same guys who were there 10 years ago, very few youngsters.
This year has seen me fishing not only canals but also commercials and hey ho there was a lot of talented canal / river guys of old fishing the commercials along with the youngsters.
I can understand the beauty of commercials particularly the way the canals have gone -Bikes,Boats ,canoes dog crap etc and also how the likes of the Coventry and Ashby canals have succumbed to Zander, but the one thing that is missing to me is the youngsters.
Years ago in Nuneaton there was a vibrant youngster scene with many of the local clubs having a junior section. I remember a christmas match on the Coventry Canal where over 60 Kids fished. A lot of them couldnt tie a hook but with 20 or so adult match anglers on the bank at hand, everybody had fun.
There was guys like Tony & Joan Sandilance, Ray Marston, Ken Roberts all running youth/kids teams. Most of the publicity for these teams were through the local paper but there is no paper now !
A few of these kids are very good anglers now and a couple of them can be seen on natural venues.
So yes the fishing is a lot better now, but somehow we need to get the kids back on natural venues (this is where they learn their watercraft) so somebody is there, in the future to ensure our waterways are not taken over by boaters and bikers etc etc
