On the subject of crisp tins, when I was a lad I found a Biscuit type tin, in the road of all things.

Just the job, somehow found some aluminium sheet and folded it to make a cracking hook over the front of me basket. Bosta it was, not like the flimsy things me mates had. Kept me squatts in that too if I could afford any.

Oh and painted me humungous basket, matt green, just to be different to me mates matt black.

How different to the lives of lads today

Did the late John Illingworth fish that match as I am sure there are some similar photos in a book I once had. Could have been an old Embassy book.

I remember being pegged next to tony sandilance up on the T&M once, and he told some tales about Billy's ability. Coventry used to come to the Great Ouse once a year to fish against the Luton club that I started with ... and Billy always emptied it!
