Re: Payouts not won

There's no right answer. I was once the only catcher in a match and it was agreed to give me all the pools (1st, 2nd and 3rd - no sections). On other matches unwon prizes have been drawn for.

old national results

I have helped John Essex to compile a list of all team and individual winners, including venues, weights, points, etc. of the Nationals. That's not the same as the complete results. I can tell who won etc if you ask a about a specific year. John is near to completing a book about the Nationals. He ...

ever used these floats

The nearest I got to getting a copy was borrowing John Essex's one to scan but his one had quite a few diagrams missing as they'd been cut out. Glad you're enjoying the book.

ever used these floats

It is the Marks and Marlow catalogue which came out in different editions over several years circa the mid to late 70s. I had a copy but sadly lost it years ago and could have done with a copy when writing my book, Ivan Marks and the Likely Lads, last year.

Re: Ivan Marks and the Likely Lads book launch

As far as I know it's OK but I'll mention it to the publisher.

You can phone through on the numbers provided on the Home page.

Edit: The publisher assures me the site is secure but says phone through if you have doubts.

Re: Help With Some Local History...

John Carding the angling writer from Abbey Wood is indeed the same person who contributed to and eventually published International Times. He was active in angling writing circa 1973 to 1979. I can't remember when he committed suicide. He was very interested in big-time match fishing and also ...

All our yesterdays........doing a bit of poaching?

No, he's not poaching as he (Ray Mumford) is fishing immediately downstream of the Parlour Pool compound on the Royalty. Picture dates back to the early 60s. He wouldn't have fished in the Parlour in those days.

Final pieces of the Ivan Marks jigsaw

I'm a week away from finishing the book due out later this year but a handful of Ivan's National/World match results elude me.

Nationals:
Ivan's points and Barnsley's position in the Div 1 1981 Ancholme National.
Any info re Ivan's appearances in the National in the 90s: Div 3 for Trinders in ...

Bygone days

Ivan wrote about the correct way to hook maggots about 40 years ago; I picked up on it at the time and in my discussions with other anglers, so did they. P77, Ivan Marks on Match Fishing.

All our yesterdays - a surprise visitor

When the book is nearing completion I'll post details but currently at circa 100,000 words so it's mostly there. Needs plenty of editing and a few stories likely to surface later this month.

All our yesterdays - a surprise visitor

I haven't entirely got to the bottom of why he packed it in. There are a number of factors including changes to the Fenland waters, the demise of the Likely lads, changes to his personal life including getting married and Ivan increasingly moving away from Leicester.
The project is a biography of ...
