Saturday 19th September.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

I put my name down to fish a match with the lads from Match Fishing Scene. The list was full up so I went on the reserve list. I was not hopeful of getting on the match as Rolfs is always a popular venue. As luck would have it several people dropped out and I got on the list.<\/p>\n

Arriving at the lake there were people milling around but I did not really know anyone and there were some of the lakes top anglers fishing today so I was a little nervous. Two people that I did know turned up, Clive and Steve. I soon got chatting to some other people too, I had a good chat with Justin Case about shallow fishing a subject I find interesting.<\/p>\n

Rolfs supremo Jon Walker turned up and everyone gathered around the back of his van to look and buy some of his floats. I went over for a look and soon found myself parting with \u00a312. I bought 6 floats costing \u00a32 each which I thought was good value for money.<\/p>\n

On to the draw. I pulled out peg 29 and instant decided I was going to be fishing shallow today and try to make it work whatever happened. The reason I thought this is because I have fished peg 29 before and wasted time fishing on the deck and by the bush to the right only to try shallow in the last hour and managed to catch a nice amount of fish.<\/p>\n

It also appeared that I had drawn next to Wacko Jacko …<\/p>\n

A nice short walk from the car park to my peg which was nice, I had brought my trolley in case I drew the motorway bank but did not need it. For company today I had John Bennett on peg 30 and Winkledean on peg 28<\/p>\n

My main rig today would be my Boilie Shallow rig that I have been using a fair bit at rolfs and have caught plenty of fish on it. Simple rig for a simple bloke hehe.<\/p>\n

I also set up a 5m line and a margin rig as a back up. With and hour and a half to set up I had plenty of time to have a chat with Eddie who had turned up and was busy munching a bacon roll. Eddie on the other side of the camera for a change.<\/p>\n

On the all in I shipped out to 11.5m and slapped the boilie on the water and waited for the boilie to sink to the 2″ depth, nothing. A few drops later the float sailed away. Without feeding anything I had managed to get a fish which is what I had done on my last visit when I drew peg 26.<\/p>\n

For the next few hours getting a bite at 11.5m was getting really hard. I managed to get a few more fish by going deeper, up to 3 foot. Changing the depth regularly seemed to induce bites. After 2 hours I decided to add another section and start again. I went out to 13m and instantly hooked in to another fish but this time the it was much bigger. With the fished weighed and photographed by Eddie {thanks Eddie} I was back out again and straight in to another fish, another weigher.\u00a0 I had another 2 weighers from the 13m line before it dried up.<\/p>\n

For the final 1\u00bd hours I added another section and went out to 14.5m’s and changed the depth back to 2 foot. I had another weigher right away but after that I was struggling for bites again. I had been watching Steve Wilson and Justin Case over on pegs 16 and 14 who seemed to be catching well also. Eddie had been doing a great job of keeping me informed on who was catching what and told me that I was in with a chance of winning my section which I was delighted with.<\/p>\n

On to the weigh in and after we weighed in the little lake it was clear on just how hard the lake had fished today. I had guessed that I had about 80lb so was keen to see what Steve on 16 and Justin on peg 14 had done. With Justin Case weighing 75lb 12oz I thought I had just about beat that but with Steve weighing in 85lb 3oz I thought he had done me.<\/p>\n

Another angler that I had seen catching a few was Slider on peg 26 and he put 76lb 4oz on the scales. The scales arrived at my peg and I weighed in 93lb 12oz which surprised me and was enough to win my section and the match. Steve and Clive had said that if I had over a ton that they were going to throw me in as I have been known to tell a few porkies where the amount of fish I have caught is involved hehe.<\/p>\n

The Match Fishing Scene lads are a great bunch of lads and I had a good laugh along with been lucky enough to catch a few fish on what turned out to be really hard day.<\/p>\n
