Rolfs Winter League. Match 4.

Sunday 3rd January 2010

My first match of 2010 is at Rolfslake fishing match 4 of the winter league series. There are 6 matches in total. I got to the lake and found it to be frozen again with the exception of peg 34. The pegs on the car park bank had been fished the day before but had frozen up again with a thinner layer of ice. I could see carp swimming under the ice.

Carp teasing us all.

Soon a healthy body of cold looking people gathered for the draw.

Everyone was wrapped up warm

I was in B section again so I had a chance of drawing a peg that had been fished yesterday and sure enough I pulled peg 32 out. I have fished peg 32 only once before and I didn’t have a good day but that was a different day. I got to my peg and since has it was fished the day before I only had to break a thin layer of ice. After 5 mins I was done, other people were still getting to their pegs and I was all ready to start plumbing up hehe.

Wrapping up the ice breaker.

My Peg for today. Peg 32

Ice Breaking on the Car Park Bank

I had a line at 10m and a shorter line at 6m just fishing slightly to my left towards peg 9. I did not bother with bush to my left as I had a bad experience with it last time I was on the peg, things are hard enough in the winter without getting snagged up round a bloody bush.

I was set up in plenty of time so me and Gem took a walk round to see Steve Wilson on peg 7.

Steve Wilson aka Jolly green giant lol

On the whistle I shipped out to 10m with a small tosspot full of maggots and disco pinkie with a red maggot and disco pinkie on the hook. The float settled and then disappeared. My reward for one minute of fishing was a perch weighing about a pound and a half. I thought I was going to be in for a good match but I was wrong. I spent the next 3 hours without a single bite from either of my 2 lines.

Nice perch to help boost my final weight

Gem who was sitting behind me had got bored and decided to take a drive to ASDA to warm up

Fields at ASDA were flooded

Gem almost frozen solid

Steve Palmer on peg 30 catching a few

Steve Wilson on peg 7 willing the fish to bite

Ian McCullock on peg 34

In the last hour the Roach turned up and I was getting regular bite but having to feed a lot more than I had been. I dont know if they were responding to the feed or had just turned up on the peg. I was having one a chuck, just a shame they didnt turn up sooner.

I finished up second in my section again. I was second in my section last time I fished B section. Neal Riddy over on peg 9 had managed a single carp to win our section. That was the only bite he had all match too. Jammy Bugger 🙂

Team Assassins are now 4th overall.
