TK Grueller match 8 - bringing home the bacon.....
TK Grueller match 8 - bringing home the bacon.....
Been to bed (a few times!!!) since this latest exciting encounter so this should be a short report.
After the wild, but mild conditions of the last few weeks, weather conditions changed dramatically for this grueller as a hard frost and bright conditions were the order of the day, with the cut being like a mill pond.
Thankfully Cockadoodledoo’s chuck wagon was in town and greeted the gruellerites with hotdogs filling everyone’s tums – cheers Cockadoodledoo.
Plus there was the added bonus from our series sponsor of bacon and eggs to the angler weighing in nearest to a ‘mysery’ weight scribbled down in a sealed envelope.
Big Col had pegged out the night before – he’d put a ‘couple of pegs’ in for the walking wounded in the pound by the ‘car park’, with the rest on the boatyard. However to avoid ‘alienating’ Phil B with a ‘Billy no mates’ match, Phil B was allocated peg 3, the first peg supposedly in the boatyard.
The draw got underway and as I looked in the book only pegs 4 and 15 were left ...........didnt fancy a trudge up the cut with Big Cols 25 paced pegs looming so I got Heinzer to dip............
And a result!!!! Heinzer pulled out 15 leaving me on 4 but with the scales.
Arriving ‘near’ to 4 Big Col and Phil B were in ‘discussions’. Peg 3 wasn’t on the boatyard after all, it was the other side of the bridge .........not to worry, we ‘tightened things up’ and ‘shoved’ it in so Phil B wouldn’t be on his Jack Jones
Now ‘Cotti the shell’ had continued his rich vein of form during the week with stampers on the caster, so today I was determined to catch a first fish this winter on the shell...........
All set up, Heinzer blew up and punch and caster lines were primed.

The first hour came and went as a few small silvers were wheedled out, but these were wiped out by Big Cols stamp kinvers on the worm. He offered me some worm which I later fed, never realising that the bag he offered me had been liberally laced with ‘essence of cormorant’ as I never had so much as a touch on the chop. And as for that caster I was determined to make work..........zilch also.
In fact I could only catch ‘short’ – a fact I later put down to the amount of disturbance that was going on by people on PhilB’s and my boat. Don’t get me wrong, not noisy as such, just ‘normal talk’ as they got on and off the boats loads of times............well that’s this weeks excuse anyway.
Whilst I couldn’t get the chop to work...........if one man could, he would...........who am I on about? ‘Mike the lob’ – aka Preditor Mike. True to form, half way through I could see his lackie out and this was the result
At the same time Big Col was having a tussle
But would he land the beastie or not............?
Being on the scales and with bites at a premium I decided to wrap up 10 minutes from the end and hang me net up to dry, tipping 14 silvers away in the process. Would that prove costly, given Sunday’s breckie was up for grabs with that ‘mystery weight’?
The banter flowed during the weigh in...........and faces dropped as anglers learnt that they weren’t in with a shout for a lb of best back and half a dozen eggs
Tales of woe were abundant – Zorro had lost a couple of bremes under his boat, Cockadoodledoo had snared an Essox as well, as did OBI, whilst Blues4eva was just about to ‘empty it’ until ‘the washing was hung out’.
A smiling Predator Mike with his couple
And Big Col with a tinca in the basket

Well spotted Tricast62 - I'll try to correct - for some 'technical' reasons I've had a right job getting this report up

Sorted
TK Grueller match 8 - bringing home the bacon.....
Had a dabble down there with Heinzer yesterday tricast62
I know its different under match conditions, but I'd have absolutely walked it with what I shoved in the net........
And whats even more confusing, I did all the damage on the shell, but couldn't buy a bite on it on Saturday
The canal is a total enigma at times

TK Grueller match 8 - bringing home the bacon.....
Didn't manage to fish big cols bag up match this morning
So instead of wasting my castors I decided on a few hours this afternoon on the extention
I Headed for the boats based on T K recent exploits
What an unbelievable afternoons fishing
Skimmers, hybrids, perch, quality roach and Rudd touching the pound mark
And beast that I never managed to see before my hook pulled out
Bullah was doing a recky for his match in the morning
They could be in for one hell of a match if this afternoon is anything to go by
It's a pity this section is shut in a week or so

Nice one Blues4eva
We fished diggers - was harder, but found a few skimmers, some knocking the lb plus mark
Saw you when we crossed the cut on the way home
