On Saturday 12th October 2013 anglers are invited to fish the Yorkshire Derwent Angling Championship. The following day (Sunday 13th October) anglers will be hotly contesting the River Hull Angling Championship.

With a £1000 first prize on offer both days the event is sure to prove popular with the both local match anglers and those from across the country. To spice up the competition even further, and give the event a true festival feel EYevents, who already host the hugely popular (European Beach Open Championship), have provided a further £1000 first prize for the best placed angler, for those fishing both matches. That one skilful and lucky angler will be crowned the 'Champion of East Yorkshire.'

Tickets for each match are £5, with optional pools of £10 per match been run on the day, being paid out to the top 3 anglers in each sections, so every angler will have something to fish for even if they do not draw on a shoal of feeding bream.

Tickets for both matches will be on sale in Hull and York tackle shops now, or available from well known local match organiser Paul Caygill

Land a Grand!

The River Hull Angling Championship 2012 was one of the largest open coarse fishing matches in the country, with over 200 entrants.  The organisers are planning a bigger and even better event, with excellent prize money.

On Saturday 12th October 2013 anglers are invited to fish the Yorkshire Derwent Angling Championship.  The winner of last year’s Yorkshire Derwent Championships was Peter Kitwood from Goole who landed 6 specimen perch upstream of Howsham Bridge, to win a £1000 and the coveted title.

Sunday 13th October 2013 will see the River Hull Championship pegged on both the slow flowing upper river and also the powerful tidal river. The winner of last year’s event was Dave Brooks from Hull, who drew peg 10 in Beverley Shipyard. Fishing pole and maggot, Dave caught roach, skimmers and perch for a brilliant weight of 39lb 6oz, to win the first prize of £1000.

Elsewhere on the river local East Yorkshire angler Craig Hirst fishing at Tickton fished similar tactics for an all roach catch of 33lb 4oz. Chesterfield rod Mark Halksworth finished 3rd with a 19lb 8oz mixed bag.  Whilst 4th placed rod was Oliver Waddy, pegged on waters below Beverley had the unusual catch of   19lb 6oz of good sized flounder to worm baits.
The Chesterfield rod Mark Halksworth was crowned EYevents East Yorkshire Angling Champion 2012 with a score of 5pts thanks to a section winning chub on the Saturday at Scrayingham, runner up over the two days was Dave Brooks of Hull.

For those anglers fishing both matches the EYevent East Yorkshire Angling Champion title and another £1000 in first prize money is up for grabs again in 2013. Obviously anglers who only fish one match are not eligible to take part in this two day contest.

Tickets for each match are £5, with optional pools of £10 per match been run on the day, being paid out to the top 3 anglers in each sections; so every angler will have something to fish for even if they do not draw on a shoal of feeding bream. Tickets for both matches will be on sale in local tackle shops now, or by ringing Paul Caygill on 07976 779983.

The headquarters for the Yorkshire Derwent match on Saturday 12th (October) is at the Yorkshire Air Museum (YO41 4AU). The headquarters for the River Hull Championships is Beverley Leisure Centre (HU17 0LT). Please remember that tickets are advance purchase only.
Both matches are being run in conjunction with the East Yorkshire Rivers Trust (EYRT) and the Environment Agency in order to survey both rivers' fish stocks.
