Apparently Gino is travelling down to Rolfs with Simon this weekend. He is not intending fishing but just to see what proper carp fight like. Im sure he will be after some tips from the big boys as well. Image Image

Gino
Results wise it's my worst venue.
I never do well there. It does my nut in
But it does draw you back.
It's not a busy venue wait for your bites mate
Though I'm not the man to advise you on there
Good luck Al

One piece of advice....ignore anything and everything I tell you on the way down there, that way you have a pretty good chance Image

Most pegs can throw up a big weight - but on our matches its generally only a few that do - and not the same ones every time. So you can draw the peg that won the last match by miles but catch bugger all this time. Some people seem to have got its measure (not me) but for most its not an easy fish. A ton at Rolfs can be around 10 fish - thats an average of one every 30 mins for 5 hours, but you can and do get long barren spells. You can catch nothing for 4 hours and do a ton in the last hour if you're lucky. Plus because the fish are quite large some days you get a lot of liners and foul hookers. Equally you can sit there watching your swim apparently heaving with big fish while your float is set in concrete.
My summary for Rolfs would be plenty of feed and plenty of patience. And if you do hook a fish, take your time and make sure you land it.
All adds up to the fact that for most if not all of a match you can feel its you got you licked - which is what does people's heads in. I come away loving or hating the place.

Only take top2 +2 of pole with you
Take no bait smaller than 8mm
Fish out in front at 2+2 and a top2 in the margin and just keep feeding till the fish turn up (could take 4hrs without a single bite)
You don't need to strike at bites that's how you end up with foul hookers just sit and wait for your pole to go under  :)
you probably wont win the match doing this but you will have a day to remember
Only problem fishing this method is you have to be prepared to blank most people aren't and spend 5hrs chasing the fish, fishing 20 different lines with 20 different methods I cant be arsed with all that end of the day if the fish are in front of you or turn up and if they are havin it then as long as you have enough bait in to hold them you will catch on anything
As for fishing for silvers any one that turns up at a big fish Carp Mecca like Rolf's and fishes for silvers should have their testicles beaten flat with a rolling pin and nailed to the gate post as a warning to others  Image

To be fair Clive how many times have silvers saved people from a MINXING

Gino when Clive says keep feeding that means you could go through 2,3 or even 5 bags of pellet and considering each bag contains 3 pints thats 2, 3 or even 5 large baitboxes full. Unfortunately Dave Moore wont be there tomorrow so you wont be able to see what feeding properly means, if you think we feed a lot at our club matches you have seen nothing yet.

Fellas thx for all the advice

Clive, you are right it's the mega carp venue, go big or nothing like that idea

You advice about hook bait no smaller then 8mm worked well at Aaron's so that's the way forward for me

I thought there is a limit on bait too feed?????

Will wait to see about that one tomorrow?

Weather looks good tomorrow bring it on!!!! Image

Cracking day on debut at Rolfs yesterday. Thx Malc for the invite.

Lucky hat went well supported by some sound advice from fellow Marsh anglers and the owner John.

Well done to Clive on his PB and thx for the advice.

Looking forward to my next invite

I think you have blown that already. How many times do I tell people thats its never a good idea to beat the Match Organiser off the next peg... even if he has a crap peg and you have a flyer.

Still well done on your second ton in two matches and the PB pole carp.
Now can you make it 3 tons on the trot at Colemans. Image Image

So whose advice are you going to follow this week.

Clive and his " Nothing smaller than 8mm pellet "

Keith and his "Stinky Corn"

Tony and his "Use every bait in your bag at least once before choosing one that is marginally better than the rest and then going through all the baits again just to check you made the right choice."

Remember though that Meat isnt allowed at Colemans. Image Image
