paste fishing

Unread post by Matthews580 »

fished a match at hall lane Sunday and had real trouble with my paste staying on the hook , i mixed it the same as in practice when i caught well so i don't think that was the problem . The wind was very strong and i think the tow was pulling the hook of it , i tried thickening it up but still wouldnt work properly any ideas what i could have done in this situation ?
paste was green swim stim and i was only fishing at 4m were it was 4ft deep .
Thanks Gary

try backshot, 3 or 4 no 8's above the float and if it's really bad maybe shot the float so it holds without bait then lay the bait a few inches on the bottom, failing that fish the method.

don't think you'll get a lot of replies on here about paste lol, Image Image Image

Paste fishing is something i used to do an awfull lot and won a lot of money doing so. But fishing it in the wind is difficult full stop. If the winds that strong you can't fish t normally (no shot down the line and sloppy mix) te only other way to do it would be as tafty says lay it on the bottom 3-4 inch but then distinguishing when the paste has come off becomes difficult so regularly striking it off the hook becoms a must.

If it is too windy then using a proper paste float that takes a bit of shot will alleviate some of the problems. In my experience it will allow you to still fish a soft paste in the tow, just use more line above the float, and be ready to react to the bites. Sometimes using a slightly softer elastic will let you get away with whacking the bites with a lot of line above the float. Also fish it a bit shorter i.e 10m instead of max length of the pole. Image
There is a fine line between fishing, and sitting there looking stupid!
