Lets hope it doesn't get hammered again beforehand...
It does amaze me how these venues are chosen!
i live in the north west and to fish a semi it's always an hour an a half drive away year after year... i know you cant please everybody, but at least have a variation on venues. I bet the natural venue will be the stainey again next year. Aint knocking the stainey as its best canal in country. but theres lots of canals on a par and some better than the duffborough in north west/staffs and west midlands especially.
Mind you no sense in complaining it'll always be the same just got to live with it as expensive as it is.

Queenie I'm hoping it won't get hammered .I've been asked to make A practice match which I have done 17th of feb the only other matches are the pairs .its down to everyone to repect the canal I know that's easy for me to say as its our water but we only fish the canal in our winter league when the river is in flood and believe me it's never the best time to fish it coloured and cold we have had a couple of really good semi but everyone always remembers the bad one
it would suite me if we went straight into the semi without fishing it before hand

Like you say Joff that might of been a bad year last time we were on it.. it actually didn't fish that bad in the semi although it was in march when it had warmed up considerably. this time in feb who knows eh?

do you not catch skimmers on the soar when its up and coloured Joff? the weaver by me turns into a fairer venue in the winter when its coloured.. but on a clear river all the roach shoal up in ten pegs.

yes we used to Queenie we used to say in coloured water its bleak or bream
;)but especially this year what ever they are putting in the sewage might not harm the fish but its defo killed the sport that we used to have odd weights yes but nothing like we used to have
whether in time fish will respond better but a couple of matches this year have been dreadful lovely colour yet the fish didn't feed .if you think about it the amount of housing and flats going up
its not rocket science that the sewage levels must be increasing yet we dont see many new sewage farms spring up
it is worring to say the least

Would the Loughborough canal keep getting semi finals if Brian didn't work at angling trust?
It's all about making money for the club, it will end up battered same as every other year.

Northern and Southern venues set.
Two of the four Angling Trust Winter League Semi Final venues have been confirmed. The Loughborough Canal will host a northern semi final – along with an unconfirmed commercial. Gold Valley Lakes will host the southern commercial round, but organisers are still on the hunt for a natural venue in the bottom half of the country. Watch this space for the complete list of semi finals, as soon as they become available.
