2013 may see return to historic venue.
Speculation has been mounting that this years Angling Trust Winter League Final could return to Nottingham’s River Trent Embankment. Although venues for the final and semi final have not been confirmed as yet, it is almost certain that the final- which is to be held will once again be held on a natural venue.

Winter League Co-Ordinator, Bob Dyer explained: “Although I am still unable to confirm anything for certain, from the meeting we had earlier in the year it was clear that teams wanted to see the final return to a natural venue. The River Trent would be perfect, as it is in a central location so no team has to travel too far, and reports suggest that it has fished extremely well this year. I will be able to confirm the exact location of the semi finals and final by the end of the month.”

The dates for the semi finals have been confirmed as the last weekend in February and the first weekend in March. The final will be held on the first weekend in July.

That will be interesting.
I fished there in the 93/4..? final when Delcac won and we were 2nd.
That year the semi was on the Nene around Peterboro'
,natural bit..Orton up and down ,Milton etc.
Proper fishing then and we qualified by beating Dorking in the league..by half a point.
That is half from poss max number points 6 matches x 120 pts per match...= 720..Really close that one.
Good old days when 10 teams of 12 fished winter leagues.

DELCAC....how was that team name formed..?

Hope it fishes better than when we fished the final on there ( I'm stuck on the exact year, 93 to 96 ) we lived on it for months running up to it, spent a full week with Tom Pickering practicing, the fishing wasn't great but we agreed we had a plan to compete. On the day it couldn't have got much worse, almost half the team blanked as did many other anglers, in fact if I remember right a few hundred grams made the top 3 in my section. That aside it is a perfect location for anglers and spectators to enjoy a great day, the fishing was poor but the place was cram packed with hundreds of spectators to make it a memorable day Image

If they have the final in july it will be like watching a boat race! Loads of students do the rowing at that time of year... not so bad when they break up though. There are loads of fish in there but it would be very hit and miss at that time of year Image, end of august however.... Image Image

Iv always thought beeston canal would make an alright final venue in summer if they could stop the bikes for the day,the topaths good loads of acces points, theres plenty of room on the rugby fields for the tackle show/sale,central near the m1 and in summer fish spred  along its length.

i cant think of a venue with enough fish in and can take a hammering with practise matches other than a commercial. rudyard lake perhaps or something on a simillar scale. porth maybe.
