Most people on the Midlands/North west circuit recognise Ian as the finest Bloodworm/Joker angler on that circuit.(Even if he does strike an uncanny resemblance to Dale Winton)

Why do you think is he so good, is he doing something different or is he doing things better...

Both mate,

Dont even think of trying to copy him tho, many have tried and ended up packing match fishing in.
His rigs are different to the norm and he feeds totally different to every one else...........he is lightning quick with his technique.

I beat him once when i drew next to him on a lancashire w/lge round two years ago at dover lock (leeds liverpool) Fozzie had 1.4.0 on joker,i had 6 skimmers for 6.0.0 on BREAD and won the section,i was a hero just for one day (David Bowie.....Heros) lol

Being a novice to worm/joker/canal fishing, what is it that makes him so good ? If you had the same identical rig, fed the same, copied him move for move, would he still beat you ?
Don't really know what I'm doing or what I'm talking about.

I dont know Ian or how he really goes about a peg but from what i've seen i would have simply put it down too the amount of confidence he has. He really attacks a peg from what i've seen and on opens, i've seen him pack up and go home early more times than i've seen him weigh in up too yet, but when he does weigh in he's awlays in that top 3 and often wins in style!

I'm new too this B&J game and you lot on here have seen Ian fish alot more so this probably wrong, but could it be that Fozzy has such a name, due too these big weights he catches which is by really attacking a peg, but when he has a bad en, its a BIG BLOW OUT? (like when he was by dodge).............Someone who fishes as postiviley as this is going too be rememberd for the times when it does come good than somebody who leans towards the side of caution and is probably more consistent but never quite grabs the limelight with sorts of weights Ian has?

As someone has already said he must just have that knack of topping it up at the right time with the right amount too keep the fish feeding confidently all the way through the match.

I dont know if i even answered the question there Image Image......infact i've confused myself re-reading it!!

Feeding, experience and presentation are a big thing. Dont forget Ian  has been doing this for years and years and I dont think he does anything else others than winter fishing on canals. (Hughesy always tells me he's a one-trick-pony to wind him up!).

Look at Polly on squatt venues, Ringer on feeder venues, Machin on pellet venues etc and you will quickly realise these people have been doing it for donkeys years, know the methods inside out and were there at the very start when these methods were being really fine-tuned and developed.

Then theres the thing that Ive seen several big name anglers use to their favour: reputation.

How many of you would fancy taking on Polly on an out-and-out squatt match, Fozzy on a joker-roach match, Ringer on a feeder match, Machin on a pellet match, Harrell on a wag-n-mag match etc etc?

Many people will draw next to these guys and think they cant beat them at their own game so waste time trying other things. They've effectively already been beaten! These anglers are all great when its an out-and-out catching race as they are confident enough to simply get their heads down and keep catching.

Fozzie is a very uncomplicated angler.....keeps it dead simple and is simply brilliant at what he does best......joker fishing. He`s been doing it since he was a kid,he`s a specialist match angler....ultra confident and fishes to win the match or section every time. He is lightning quick on fish, almost unbeatable !!

He`s tackled up in 5 minutes ready to go.......nearly always the last angler to his peg.

Ask him about backshots Image ;)

Anyone can beat Fozzy on the next peg if they get the winter inbalance! I was next to him a couple of weeks ago. We were on good pegs but expected the worse cos of how we both saw the canal - fish topping at the other end of the stretch. I was on an end peg and he was no better off than me. Before the start, I clocked that his rigs were set shallower and lighter than mine. We started and I caught first. After 5 mins he told me that we were in for a hard time and after 1 hour he had 16 perch to my 5! After 4 hours, he came to talk to me and said that if the bloke to his left did n't beat him (who was now catching skerrits) then he had won the section. I did n't even know where the section ran! He won the section with perch. I tried to beat him and failed miserably off a better peg. i will keep trying! Image

The strangest thing just happened....

Ian just dropped my bait off, he got out of the car and a big fat orange bloke can running up the street, slapped him round the face a few times and shouted " You've been tango'd"

Poor old Fozzie is bright orange ...AGAIN!
