First thought Sharki - with depths upto 12ft, dont you possibly need to consider upto a 6 mtr jobbie?
Talking of 6 mtr whips, whilst there are a few all telescopic (I've got 7 & 10 mtr Shimano diaflash all telescopic whips), most 6mtr come top 3 or 4 telescopic with a couple of put over sections.
A 6 mtr jobbie may be more versatile than a shorter one.......after all you dont have to use all sections.......

I would be very reluctant to fish punch in more then 6ft of water. and as for a 4m whip, my advice would be to buy a longer 6m ish one even if it is telescopic just take out the sections and use it at the length you want.
For rigs and floats read my article on this forum.

Now it's down to budgets.......
On the 2nd hand front you might pick up a Daiwa Harrier 6mtr for around £50-£60
The Daiwa Connoisseur will come in a double that - but you might pick up an 8mtr model
And for a Tournament expect getting on for treble the cost of a 2nd hand Connoisseur
On the 6 mtr front as well as the Harrier, I've also got a Garbolino Quadra and Maver Alborella - they all do a decent job for me, but usually only see the light of day on the odd occasions when I fish the rivers
Silstar also did a few decent models too going back - the odd one crops up now and then on Fleabay

Hi --Ive not done a lot of fishing recently, been concentrating on my bike racing--will be dusting the gear down and making some rigs up for the winter matches on the Steeping starting in November.

Hope its better than last year I didnt win a match.
Just a pic to let you know what ive been up to--notice the sponsor
PS: will need a new sponsor next season--S. A. C. has closed down, I`ll have to buy my bait next season now.

Derek.
I recently made some more floats for use with the whip, use as a waggler fastened bottom end only.

hows thee made them Daskin cane tip wire stems bolsa or quill bodies look right enought to me them

Similar to the Tubertini Stix floats which are fantastic for punch fishing still going strong after many years in circulation ...... the shape of the float works brilliantly even though it looks slightly odd !

Piano wire stems, peacock body and cocktail stick top.
The wire is the casting weight, no need to put any shot around the float. It actually doesnt work properly if you do.
I have been using them( or should I say this design) for at least 25 years with much success.
You can fish a whip in windy conditions where you cant with top and bottom.

They must have copied my design, pity I didnt patent it.
