You could be right Bill, my alternative would be Hoveringham.

A lot of the Trent does look similar around that area. Funnily enough that pic really does look like Shelford on the far bank.
If it is that is exactly where I was in a National and Frank Barlow was about where the angler is in pic.
It was the year Notts Fed blasted the points record out of sight.

Even if it isn't there it brought back memories.
By the way I had 10 oz at Shelford in that National, there were loads of blanks as the river was dead low, Dave Ensor was three pegs from me he had one chub 1 lb. Cec Williams (top guy) was with his dad next peg and blanked. Remember Dave Ensor saying, that's it I'm off to Ireland for good.

The far bank looks like shelford not far below stoke bardolph weir, but if it had been the national, there would have been anglers visible opposite.
From memory Frank was on the roadside (bottom end) on that national - and I'm not sure if he didn't see off John Allerton at the next peg...

If you blow the pic up a bit there are a few clues.

The depth he is fishing and without doubt all the flow is on the inside. As Trypewriter says the far bank lokks like the top end of Shelford.

The pic is taken looking upstream somewhat so the far bank is out of view. Is not that the fence on the far bank where Frank had all his too famous accident after a curry the night before?
On a second showing it could well be right at the bottom of the roadside.

It looks like the bit just below thrumpton weir on the trent, wide enough, depth is right and you sit in rocks. could still be a lot of places though! Image

i remember Ivor bilson and pete wade both fishing caythorpe just before the real boom ,Ivor used to make floats wagglers especially some would be a foot and a half long on the day he drew a barbel peg where you needed to cast a feeder right a cross the river  :o :oand it a wide section of river at caythorpe needless to say Ivor fished his big wagglers as far out as he could and won the match with chub and roach i think it was around 40lb unheard of back then i'm sure george bott was 2nd on wasp grubs and pete wade 3rd
these long wagglers worked on most venues normanton sutton nene welland and then for some reason Ivor packed up fishing  :-/ :-/ :-/and a long with the long wagglers  :-/ :-/

i keep looking at tthe angler its not kingfisher is it Image Image
