Picked up another couple of poles over the weekend.

Not quite an impulse buy, but I’d no need to really – I’ve already got 5 poles stashed away. It was more of a nostalgia trip picking up these models from yesteryear.

What’s on your shopping list?

Are there any items that you are desperately in need of or need to replace/upgrade/duplicate?

I will deffo be buying some Gore-tex clothing when money permits, I'm on my third lot of normal clothing and it has all leaked. Fed up with it now.
I've also have my Messiah 3 years now and would like to upgrade to the 401. We shall see :)
That's all I would upgrade at the minute really.

Im seriously considering a couple of ready rod sleves but cant decide between the Shakepeare ones or the Preston hardcase versions.

Only other thing I desperately want are some Wilkie paste floats. I only bought a cou[ple of each size last year and now want some more but they are like hens teeth, almost impossible to get hold of.

Some of the tackle ive bought recently has been old stuff TK. Catching up on those years i'd stopped fishing. Even bought an old landing net handle because it bought back old times... times which incidentally were pre poles, proper ones anyway !

Troub is ,when you actually get down to it, at that age the rods arent much good except for nostalgia, with one exception.

When I was a kid Shakespeare bought out their International match rod, which as far as I could seen at the time was streets ahead of anything else on the market in the 12' version. It's fibreglass and was the first real tip actioned glass rod i'd see. The great plus with it, is that is has power in the middle section too if you hit a big 'un.

I've used it and abused it and had sizeable carp off the top on it and big chub freelining on the Dorset Stour, its an amazing rod for its time with a very niche market now ( me ) but the 13 footer was a uselss affair with an all over the place floppy action.
