Walsall canal and Tame valley canal.
105 fished
With conditions ideal everyone expected a roach feast and the main questions being asked were whether the mild weather would encourage the Skimmers to have a go, this was definately not the case with the venue fishing very hard in areas that normally produce.
Welsh international Darren Frost showed what a class act he is with a win on the day from peg 120 on the Tame Valley with a mixed catch of roach, skimmers and perch for 10-4-3.
On the next peg was Shakespeare superstar Rob Middleton with a roach catch of 9-8-0.
Individuals
1st Darren Frost (Drennan NW) 10-4-3
2nd Rob Middleton (Shakespeare) 9-8-0
3rd Rob Quinn (Shakespeare) 7-5-4
4th Paul Bick (Shakespeare) 7-2-8
5th= Darran Bickerton (Daiwa Trentmen) 6-13 10
5th= Jason Scrivener (Daiwa Trentmen) 6-13 10
On the team front Daiwa Trentmen showed thier 7 point tally from the last round was no fluke, this time they bettered it with Darran, Jason and Pete Scott (5-11-6) all coming back with 2nds to total just 6pts.They now move, despite missing the 2nd rd, into 2nd place in the league.
Teams on Day
1st Daiwa Trentmen 6 pts.
2nd Shakespeare Superteam 12.
3rd Tipton 15.
4th Drennan NW Black 17.
5th Drennan NW Gold 18.
6th Shakey Mach3 19.
League to date.
1st Shakespeare Superteam 61 points
2nd Daiwa Trentmen 71

5th HanKat VDE 78

8th=Mosella Black Country 85
8th= MRM 85
10th=Tipton 87
10th= Drennan NW Red
I was 3rd in section off peg 65 with 5-8-2...but i took a quid off Sladey and won TWO Mars bars.
Ade Slayde won his section with 4-9-7 off peg 60.
Endpeg drew peg 54 in another crap bit and finished 14th with 0-15-6.
Dodge3 was 6th in section off peg 108 with 4-13-12.
The biggest shock of the day was when Dale Winton turned up at the Draw .....
Turned out Fozzie had gone to sleep on the Sunbed!

I had a phone call half way through from a lad on the Bilston angling centre match.......only 1 fish had been caught on a stretch where usually every one has 4lb!

Ah but at least I took a £1 off Lewis Breeze on the next peg so it wasnt all bad! We both had 18 fish but mine weighed 3oz more. Superior presentation again!

There wasnt a roach in our pegs until 2.50pm. Cant believe they caught even less than us in front of the portacabins as well. At least you can blame our draw on being too shallow, narrow and too close to a bridge.
If i was you Lee I would seriously consider putting the matches back 30 mins now we have a bit more daylight. Especially with it being so clear.

On the short sections 101-109 & 110-118 the fish are tightly shoaled in the middle of the sections ie 105-107 and 114-116.
I drew peg 108 where it narrows towards the bridge hole end peg 109, with lots of small roach topping in the middle of the section when we arrived at our pegs hopes were high,darren bickerton,paul bick and jason cunningham drew the middle pegs.....darren and paul caught small roach straight from the off....jay 30 mins in and me after 50mins just like the round before i was playing catch up !! but with three of the very best to the left of me all 1lb plus up on me it was always a tall order.
I really struggled to catch on my 6mtr, line only half a dozen tiny roach through out the day and could only catch left and right at 10mtrs which slowed my catch rate.I never caught one perch which is unusual for this canal as they are good weight builders and finished up with 4.13.12 just missing out on some section money.the lad to my right on end peg 109 had about 12oz which he tipped back.
