And another picture from MGB............who adds

'The pic is a random one, venue not known, but it is interesting to see the old wicker baskets in use. We seemed to manage quite well in those days with only half the tackle we lugg about today and not a wheel barrow in sight! I think the guy on the scales was M Roberts'

MGB tells us  'A couple featuring Alan Bishop. I am pretty certain at Grove farm reservoir just outside Worcester with Alan scribing and Dave on the scales. I can't remember the name of the guy in the overalls'

We also have MGB with the matchwinning catch taken at that first match at Welford

Image

MGB adds an amusing tale............

This one I am fairly certain is of my catch at Welford [9/3/85] of 15..15..15. It sticks in my memory because of the bizarre way it came about. That year I had had my 25 year long service award from British Gas and I decided to spend the cash on one of those new fangled "pole" thingies which were becoming more and more prominent in angling circles!  I had no idea how to use it on a river and asked a colleague at work on the Friday before the match on what I should do. He asked me where the contest was and I told him Welford on the River Avon. You will need some elastic if you are going to fish the Avon he said, so off I trotted to Doreens in West street, bought some elastic, and my first ever made up pole rig.

I hadn't got a clue on how to rig it up and I ended up using just a knot and a bead at the tip and the tip of a cut down balsa float to wedge the elastic at the other end. That'll do just to test it I thought. The float rig I had bought was suitable for deep and slow so I was a tad disappointed to get to my peg and find it was quite pacey. With quite a high bank behind me I could only comfortably use the first 2 maybe 3 sections. After a fishless hour I became tired of trying to keep the bait down by following the trot with the pole and decided to have a cup of tea. Placing the pole in a rest I was bemused to see the float was holding back and almost horizontal which meant the bait was only inches below the surface. I got no chance I thought. When my eyes returned to the job in hand after making my drink, I was amazed to see the elastic stretching out into the middle of the river! Even more amazed when discovering the cause of such a phenomenon was a big chub with many more to follow!

Another picture of Heinzer this time, again thanks to MGB

Image

MGB adds The only thing I know about Dave's pic is that it was taken at Ripple. Which match I have no idea. Ripple was an almost annual venue in the 70's as we had to cater for 40 or so members.

MGB tells us 'Another stalwart member for many years. Although he was a regular on most matches, I don't remember him winning a trophy, but he never complained about anything and was always happy to turn up and enjoy his fishing.
One year he came within a whisker of winning the Club Champion trophy but was pipped on the last match.
I was so disappointed for him I secretly arranged for a "Runners Up" trophy to be awarded to him at the Presentation Night. His face was a picture! He now has the honour of holding a one off trophy that was never repeated in the history of Cashmores.'

Nice one MGB  Image Now I realise why for some reason there was 'runner up' listed for this year in the archives
