The Lakes

Penlake

Penlake is the first lake that you will see on entering the fishery and parking is available at either end. With a number of central islands and reed beds each of the 25 pegs offers opportunities to the angler and many are secluded and private. This is the main match water for the fishery and is stocked with mid-size carp although a number of specimens also patrol the margins and islands. The trees and mature landscaping offer protection in Winter and shade in the Summer.

Species

Mainly carp to 10lbs although there is a good head of silvers including rudd, perch and chub.

Pegs

25

Depth

5-8 feet with the deeper sections being by the top road.

Methods

The favoured method is the long pole to gives access to the reed beds and islands. Fishing the waggler shallow or tight to the islands can also yield results. Ledgering is allowed throughout the year NO method feeders, bolt rigs, in-line feeders. The High Pool has been renamed Penlake Please can we remind you of the BAITS ALLOWED maggots; castors; luncheon meat ; worms; yellow sweetcorn; pellet; please purchase feed pellet from us at £1 per bag. No Bread - Hemp - Groundbait - Paste (or paste from our pellet) No Dog food - Cat food - Macaroni Cheese No Prawns - Biscuits - flavourings or colourings, Do not feed meat - hook only Applies to All Lakes. Please read the Notice Board as you come in All anglers fishing matches, it is MOST important that you DO NOT put your keepnets in the water until 10 minutes before the start of your match. It is vital that you adhere to this rule. Applies to all pools. We have a strict 50lb to a net rule, please bring 3 keepnets to our venue. Your secretary should inform you of our full list of match rules. Please note - we do not rescue lost equipment from the water. Do not enter the water.

Baits

Depending on the time of year and the weather use pellet, sweetcorn, meat or maggots , worms and casters. - meat is to be on the hook, not fed, please do not use flavourings or colourings. pellet and corn seem to be the best just recently (May 2011) PLEASE STOP using macaroni cheese, you are causing oil on top of the water which we cannot get rid of and also compromises the water quality. We try and keep the water quality at its best, therefore do not use the banned baits.
