I had a days holiday off work today so spent the morning with the wife shopping in Manchester city center ..... to cut a long story short luckily i found myself directly next to the River Irwell outside Manchester Cathederal at the top of deansgate  ;)

What a sight to behold , i honestly couldnt believe what i saw , firstly a quick glance and saw several "fish" top , a closer inspection through the railings and half a dozen fish were topping in the main flow then a more concentrated look down river there were literally hundreds of fish topping everwhere ! ..... i decided to take a closer look next to the bridge where there was a big shadow on the river and WOW i could see clearly inches below the surface down to at least a meters depth probably the biggest shoal of stamp roach and dace i have ever seen  :o :o :o the shoal stretched between the 2 big bridges approx 200 yards long directly outside Manchester Cathederal. Why they are shoaled so tightly into that stretch i dont know ? No signs of fish topping the otherside of each bridge .... maybe cormorants have hearded them there or they are spawning ? fabulous sight though with the roach probably 4 oz to around 12 oz and maybe bigger and the dace all 2 oz to 8 oz fish.
